doom 64 and gzdoom running on a non open gl compatible machine

Recommended Posts

mesa 3d truly is a great thing i have a potato laptop from 2011 with extra ram but with mesa 3d i can run programs via software mode that my pc could only dream of otherwise

is there anyone else who is experienced with it?  digging around i also seen that there are people trying to also make a software mode version of vulkan.

thing is it runs like trash... at least gzdoom does, doom 64 runs very smooth but gzdoom chuggs a lot and crashs are frequent so i will say it is unplayable howerver it lasts long enough so i can go into the options and change the render to software then it runs perfectely, (off course you lose on some features of the other renders but if you are desperate you can totally do it though im doing this as more of an experiment) i also want to test this with doom 2016 to see if i can get it on a playable state on a machine that is way way too weak to run it though at the time i dont have free space on my machine to test it and if possible also test the vulkan software rendering especially with doom eternal since it seens to be more optimized then 2016 from what i heard.

i dunno if this is the right topic for doom general since its more about the technicall stuff outside of it so sorry if this isnt the place for it.
