continuum.mid Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Get the album here (payment optional): https://ivanastan.bandcamp.com/album/midiocrity CC0 (Public Domain) Copyright-Friendly Version: https://opengameart.org/content/midiocrity-doom-inspired-midi-album MIDIs, of course, are included in both of these downloads. Tracklist: The Mothership's Wake (TNT: Evilution MIDI Pack) Airport Attack (Theme-gawad #1) Savior of Humanity (TNT: Evilution MIDI Pack, unused) Fun is Infinite at AGM (original, FrantikDM) Punch Your Way Through (original, FrantikDM) Death Waltz (original) The Invisible Gardener (original) Quantum 2 (original, based on an older track of mine named "Quantum") Challenges Ahead (original) Doomguy and His Angry Band (remix, Ultimate MIDI Pack) The Journey Continues (Theme-gawad #1) The Ritual (Abaddon's Garrison, Theme-gawad #1) Mouth for Secrets (remix, Ultimate MIDI Pack) Network (cover, originally by Patricia Taxxon) Desolation (Ultimate MIDI Pack) Derelict (Freedoom) Savior of Humanity (Cammy Remix) (TNT: Evilution MIDI Pack) Good Endings (original) Arrival of the Demons (Ultimate MIDI Pack) Hey everyone, I'm Ivan Stanton (northivanastan). In case you don't know, I've been making MIDIs for numerous projects on this forum since I joined last February. I'll be honest: this is largely just an excuse to post my MIDIs somewhere that more people will see them. I rarely see replies to my posts in the Creative Works forum or OpenGameArt, so I decided that if Dragonfly can post his albums to Doom General, so can I. This album contains all of the stuff I've already released across Doomworld - everything from my Creative Works thread, all of my contributions to Ultimate MIDI Pack, and more. To be fair, it's not only that. This album gives everyone an opportunity to preview the TNT: Evilution MIDI Pack; it includes my contributions for the title screen music - "The Mothership's Wake" - and MAP30 - "Savior of Humanity (Cammy Remix)." In addition to those tracks, there's one more track that is Bandcamp-exclusive because I'm not sure I can release it on OpenGameArt - "Network." "Network" is a MIDI cover of part of Dance Odyssey by Patricia Taxxon, and this part is itself a mashup of melodies from several copyrighted tracks. It's also just convenient to be able to get all of my MIDIs in one place. Feel free to use these however you want in whatever projects you're working on. Most of them are even public domain! I only ask that if you use one of the remixes/covers, you attribute both me and the person I am remixing. In the case of "Network" it would be "originally by Patricia Taxxon, arranged for MIDI by Ivan Stanton (northivanastan)"; for "The Mothership's Wake" it would be "originally by Tom Mustaine, remixed by Ivan Stanton (northivanastan)"; for the others it would be "originally by Bobby Prince, remixed by Ivan Stanton (northivanastan)." Also, if one of the MIDIs sounds too loud or quiet or has the wrong instruments, I recommend that you contact me, so I can fix those issues for you. Thanks to @Cammy, @Pompeji, and @Ofisil for letting me work on their respective projects, my MIDIs for which are included on this album. I'm very happy to release this! continuum.mid Posted May 9, 2021 Thanks to whoever just bought this for $5. It's the first time anyone's paid for my music! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted May 9, 2021 Good stuff! Out of curiosity, why the Freedoom artwork, though? If I understand the track list correctly, only one track is from Freedoom. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If I understand the track list correctly, only one track is from Freedoom. Mainly, I just really like Freedoom. But also, I wanted to signal that the tracks are free as in freedom, just like Freedoom. Also, Freedoom could in theory adopt any of the tracks except the remixes. Derelict is the only one with an open pull request. Edited May 10, 2021 by northivanastan 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kwc Posted May 10, 2021 Really liking the influx of midi albums popping up on here over the past few months. Happy that you (all) are putting yourselves out there like that, the midi tunes coming out of the Doom modding scene really do stand on their own. Big shoutout to you, @northivanastan for committing some of your works to public domain, and for putting effort into being clear about licensing. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I still bend the rules of copyright a bit (making remixes without permission), but I want to make sure that people don't need to worry about copyright on my songs (at least, my completely original ones). I don't want the ability to sue people over attribution, copyleft, permission, royalties, or any of that. At most, I want people to think of them as optional gestures of respect. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
continuum.mid Posted May 10, 2021 (edited) For those who downloaded to get the MIDIs, it seems there was an export issue with The Invisible Gardener; it should now be fixed. Edited May 10, 2021 by northivanastan 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zero the Red Posted May 10, 2021 Gold standard MIDIs right there! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
continuum.mid Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Hey look, I have an excuse to bump this now! "Punch Your Way Through" and "Fun is Infinite at AGM" have found a home in maps 10 and 23 of the duel-focused megaWAD FrantikDM by @Arrowhead. It's looking pretty good. continuum.mid Posted June 10, 2021 I uploaded the album to YouTube and archive.org in case those places are more convenient: https://archive.org/details/ivan-stanton-midiocrity-14-network-originally-by-patricia-taxxon It certainly gives me a convenient excuse to bump my own thread again :) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
