Favorite Rapper?

Recommended Posts

rap is my absolute favorite genre of music and i wonder if there is anybody who likes it here too, nobody is limited to just 1 rapper, mine are T.I., Juvie, Sosa, and Nas

Edit: Pastor Troy is also one of them.

Favorite rap group is Brockhampton by far but out of them all Dom McLennon is the best rapper. Outside of Brockhampton it'd be Denzel Curry

Biggie & Big L are my two favorites. classic hip-hop was always my favorite genre, although I can't get into the new stuff for the most part.

This'll be disappointing, I know, but I can't say that I really went for rap. I liked the really early stuff, like Rapper's Delight and Blondie's "Rapture," but that was about it. That didn't keep me from writing a rap and submitting it to The Grammys for consideration for nomination, though.

Lo Wang's Rap, featuring John William Galt's heavily edited vocals and my handwritten backing track.

No, it didn't get nominated for a Grammy. But it made the list of eligible songs in 1997!

My favorite rapper would probably be Freddie Dredd. His style is very strange, (almost experimental at times) but I really like it.

I also really like MF Doom, Don Toliver and Denzel Curry.

Not a massive rap fan, but any rapper that avoids the (pardon the words but it's the only way to describe it) "bitches, drugs and money" sub genre, avoids auto tune and doesn't sound like they just woke up from a 20 year coma and still don't know where they are let alone which direction to point their mic has my respect. Bonus points if the backing track doesn't sound like it was laid down with empty coffee tins for percussion and a battered old Casio for instrumentation.

MF Doom
Dr. Octagon
Skepta

Azealia Banks

Bone Thugs n Harmony

Plus many others that are usually from the 90's and early 00's that I can't always name but enjoy on the radio :)

Right so, I like old 2000's 50 cent stuff.

I know he's a "studio gansta" and sell out and all that but I have memorized every word to Wanksta and My Buddy and I genuinely enjoy his music.

That, and as kids we were all "plastic gangsters" who would listen to rap and think we were badasses and the thought of my lame ass pretending to be a gangsta greatly amuses me.

Never really got into rap too much, except for a certain knight who really went out of his way to pay his respects to gargantuan posteriors.

Not into rap too much, but I vastly prefer earlier rap releases instead of today's barely intelligible mumble (c)rap that's been blowing up as of late. I thought the rap scene valued clear, intelligible pronounciation alongside tight flow and rhythm? heh.

Anyways, as someone who is primarily a metalhead I do really enjoy when acts like Hacktivist and DSVR come along with a fusion of rap vocals over the top of hard hitting metal riffage.

Never really got into rap, but I appreciate the works of Tupac Shakur, N.W.A., and other rappers from that era, in terms of artistic value. From what I've listened Kendrick Lamar isn't that bad either.

Probably the closest thing to rap that I actually got into was Heaven's Sun by Patricia Taxxon (EDM with chopped-up vocal samples). It's pretty fun.

My favourite hip-hop artist working today is Danny Brown. His style can be so oddball and the production of the stuff he works on (especially Atrocity Exhibition) is always so incredible, and always feels like he's the only rapper you could picture rapping over it. He really has a presence unlike anyone else. Honourable shoutout to JPEGMAFIA, as a rapper there are better but his production skills are unstoppable. I tend to really gravitate toward experimental stuff in music in general, so my favourite hip hop artists can sometimes reflect that.

For classics, A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep, Digable Planets, and Wu Tang Clan are the favourites.

Don't spend a large amount of time with rap/hip hop, but when I do, I like it to be vulgar, disgusting and unapologetic, roughly similar to my taste in metal, but the other side of the coin. Cypress Hill, NWA, Notorious B.I.G., Twista and most of the dirty south movement are roughly in the vein I find most enjoyable, for whatever reason.

Reflective, positive and inspiring rap is about the worst offense to my senses, though I don't feel right knocking anyone's artistic expression too much, because my taste is such an easy target as well.

because now adays rap is just mumbling and "brrr" and "skrt"

How can you say this when rappers like Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt and Jpegmafia exist, to name a few. (And shit, let people enjoy trap music, what's wrong with that?)

For me there's the above, plus DOOM, Chuck D, Wu Tang, and Rakim for older stuff.

I endorse this mentality. It's just, as an outsider who clearly "doesn't get it", it sounds like the lowest effort crap makes it to the top of the charts while those who put forward genuine effort and talent sit to the side, relatively undiscovered as "hidden gems". Same applies in literally every umbrella genre though. I understand it though, Mumble rap is to hip hop what nu-metal was to metal, and I liked nu-metal when growing up, heh.

I genuinely believe that people that think modern rap is all “mumble rap” have not taken any time to actually listen to the genre or only listen to the big pop rap hits. That’s all I’m gonna say on this subject. There are a large amount of incredibly talented artists that are around and fairly popular: Kendrick Lamar, Denzel curry, Tyler the creator, Freddie Gibbs, run the jewels, JID, Billy Woods, Clipping. Just to name a small selection and if you would define any of these as “mumble rap” then the term has lost all meaning and you only use it to describe things you don’t like with no real criticism. And not to say there isn’t merit in actual mumble rap which is usually carried by a vibe and the instrumental rather than lyrics. Not saying it’s all good but that there’s merit.

Gotta say, T.I. is a pretty terrible individual. Do some research into how he treats his daughter, Deyjah. It's disgusting. Won't go into details here; However, Deyjah has said that the experience of what he did to her has been traumatizing.

On a better note.. the good rappers! Aesop Rock, Chuck D, Rakim.. I'm sure I could name some more.

1. Man you will just never understand music, just because it's fancy and creative doesen't mean it's good, that's just being watseful with your effort if you don't pull it off and that's why i appreciate those rappers more than whatever pathetic coked up cartoon you listen too that does not mean anything really impressive and is practically the crust of a sandwich you cheap douchebag, and i am willing to sacrifice a bit of my worth for that

2. Eh, atleast you're funny, but still

dude i can't believe i'm having a heart attack over this on my birthday, why do so many people think good rap is about being creative with your rhymes because that should be in your music in general, insulting chief keef because he does not rhyme creatively is like complaining about a slim jim with no salt on it (ironically) literally.
