For the 25th anniversary of DOOM, Doomworld released Top 100 memorable maps, 25 missed cacowards, And a long essay about the history of Doom mapping featuring a bunch of indcredible WADs over the years.

 

there is also this from when DOOM turned 10 years old. also from Doomworld, and also this one from the same year.

 

I also recommend looking at the Doom Master Wadazine. it's an online magazine where a bunch of Doomers look at and review excellent wads. there are a bunch of recommendations so far in the series.
