Doom 64 Zombieman Sprite Palettes (EX / Remaster)

Recommended Posts

In Doom 64 it can be tricky distinguishing Zombiemen from Shotgun Guys. They do have different colors but in the darkness of Doom 64 it can be tricky to tell them apart. Luckily for Doom 64 EX and the recent Doom 64 Remaster you can swap out palettes which can help make them more distinguishable. CoTeCiO has made a good palette which you can find here: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/98672/

I decided to throw my hat into the ring to see what can be done with palette swaps and here are my results:

To use these in Doom 64 EX or Doom 64 Remaster, take one of the palettes and name it either "PALPOSS0.pal" to replace the Zombieman colors or "PALPOSS1.pal" to replace the Shotgun Guy colors. You can either create your own WAD to load them into EX / Remaster or you can edit the doom64.wad itself (if you switch it from iwad to pwad) and replace the palettes. Get the palettes here: Palettes.zip

I actually never noticed they had different colors...

Your variants look nice. I think a combination of Blue with Infected's skin/hair tone would look good.

And also I bet the colored lighting also makes it trickier to tell them apart on top of the darker areas.

Reloaded is now using your blue pants pallet. I think the black pants pallet has the boot and pants too similar in tone.
Compared to the original your new pallet is better by a country mile.

Sorry to necro this elden thread, but is there any way to get these pallets to work in EX Plus? I'm can't get this loaded in as a pwad (either thru the included launcher or command-line via -file) and slade won't let me edit the iwad

I might be able to get it to work, which palette would you like for which enemy? :)

Unzip this attachment and hopefully it works for ya!

ShotPal.zip

Thanks for taking the time to help me on this, unfortunately it was in vain as I think the problem is more to do with EX+'s launcher

I thought I loaded my own assembled palette wads in command-line to no avail, but that must've been when I was trying out markers because the included launcher wouldn't accept the wads. the launcher didn't parse your wad either, but both yours and my own worked just fine when launching via command-line

I might have to make a github account just to address that the launcher doesn't like these more simple wads. It works fine with megawads like Reloaded or Ethereal Breakdown and I don't know why

Oh maybe! Ya I dragged an dropped that WAD onto EX+, which could explained why it is fine for me.
