GZDoom 4.6 bug in Doom 1

Recommended Posts

The new GZDoom is here, but it has a strange bug where the super shotgun loads even in Doom 1. Except, because Doom 1 doesn't have that weapon, it's just a blank area with only the reloading animation (part of it, at least) and no sound.

Any easy way to fix this? I tried submitting a bug report on their forums but it doesn't look like it went through, for whatever reason.

EDIT: I did some poking around in the dev builds. May 19 (245) is good, but May 20 (257) has the bug. So something happened early on the morning of May 20th... something terrible... something beyond imagination...

I'm joking, of course, but hopefully this helps pinpoint an easy fix.

what are your system specs (CPU/GPU/RAM/OS)?

Tested it out with "idkfa" on The Ultimate Doom. That code does give you the invisible SSG, luckily you never encounter the SSG in DOOM 1 naturally, so this won't really show up during normal play.

One thing I did is I created a wad file that contains the SSG graphics from DOOM 2 and loaded it into DOOM 1 - it's no longer invisible!

Oh wow, you guys are fast! Thanks!

Someone suggested this on their forums (that's my question in that link): "I'd rather tweak the 'give weapons' code so that it doesn't give a weapon if any of its sprites are missing."

That seems like a smart fix to me.
