Doom logo font

Recommended Posts

i am working on a project and i would like to use the main title font from the original game, but all the programs i can find can do the font but only in solid colors, not with all the colors like i would like, does anyone know a good program to do this or would i have to go into photoshop and do it myself? the image attached is how i wanted it to look

That’s not really a font, it’s a full graphic design/art endeavor. Someone had to draw that logo, it’s not just typed in.

The closest I’ve seen is people photoshopping new letters from the “strokes” of the existing ones, but that’s still a lot of effort and encounters the problem of how the perspective of each letter is vanishing towards a center point somewhere, which means each letter can’t even be easily rearranged much less cut up and turned into new letters. Furthermore, the “D” and “M” have stylized descending qualities that bookend “Doom” which makes it even less portable, really the entire thing is full freight it’s own artwork which cannot really be expanded upon without a lot of effort.

All the above is true - but if you want a starting point, AmazDoom is the font I use for my video thumbnails. It comes in both left and right varieties, which lets you recreate the bookend effect.

I made my profile picture in photoshop. If you want to make something similar you can follow these steps:

1) Use the text tool to write out what you want to doomify.

2) Use line tool to add extrusions (example: the pointy bits at the top of the n in my picture)

3) Find a greeble texture (basically a texture used to make random computer looking things) and place it on the top half of the text. It's recommended that you put this at a slight angle.

4) If this makes sense, find a less greebley texture for the bottom half of the text.

5) Use a gradient overlay going from bluish-grey to orangish-yellow on the top and bottom greeble textures respectively.

6) Add an outline with a gradient also going from bluish-grey to orangish-yellow. I'd suggest adding a metal texture to this outline.

7) Create a 3d effect by adding greeble texture behind the main text with the free transform tool.

8) Add the usual gradient to this 3d effect with a bit of a darker tone.

9) And finally, add the metallic outline to this to make it all complete.

This logo took me three hours to make and I was only doing one letter. If you can find a less time-consuming method, be my guest, but this way gives you the best results in my opinion.

If you want the font to have the colours/textures like the logo, you'd have to either make it yourself or commission a designer to do it for you and considering the amount of detail, plus the amount of work it takes to create a font, it'd cost you an arm and a leg. If you just want the basic shape though, this font should prove sufficient.

It lacks a "center" variant, though, I had to make one "manually" here. That would be useful for when your word has an odd number of letters...

Isn't it likely to touch on Doom's trademark? Be careful.

considering how many references there've been to it in other media, i kinda doubt it
