Zilch Posted May 30, 2021 So during lockdown I started enjoying Doom via LZDoom 3.85, which worked pretty well for my old HP 4530s. This laptop had a 2nd gen i3, so no opengl support, only software. However, I recently got a nice upgrade, and as such I have decided to upgrade my Doom experience, to GZDoom 4.6.0. I managed to set up all the controls. But the one issue that bugs me is now it crops all the menu artwork for my 16x9 1440p monitor. Here's a screenshot of before, and after... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted May 30, 2021 (edited) modern GZDoom has widescreen support for the menu now. It hasn't been cropped, but extended. Edited May 30, 2021 by Biodegradable 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zilch Posted May 30, 2021 Intel NUC BXNUC10i7FNH, 16GB Corsair RAM dual channel DDR4-2666, WD Black SN850 1TB, Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 2.5", Logitech G231 Keyboard, Logitech G102 Mouse, Dell P2421D 24" 1440P Monitor About a year's worth of savings. It still has the iGPU, albeit a tiny bit better. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Look better at your before and after, and notice how no part of the "before" is missing from the "after". This is thanks to the work of Nash: If you really want to go back to the 4:3 art, then uncheck the "widescreen" box in the startup window. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Feeling a bit stupid now that you pointed it out😂 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zilch Posted May 30, 2021 Upon further experimentation I also discovered that some cheats doesn't work (iddt, idclip, etc)... wonder why. Even with the upgrade from 2nd gen to 10th gen, the performance isn't that great. Although I do get to use OpenGL which is nice. One thing I do like about GZDoom is the ability to render at 720p and upscale that to 1440p. I disabled any filtering, so it's nice 'n sharp. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
