WAD crashes PrBoom, but not Vanilla, Chocolate or other ports

Doomkid

Question

https://doomshack.org/uploads/BourgFix.zip

When playing this wad in PrBoom+, upon loading to Map02 from Map01, it crashes with a Signal Handler bug, or a Z_Free: Freed a pointer without ZONEID message (as reported here).

Does anyone know why this might be? Wad works perfectly in Vanilla, Chocolate, DSDA-Doom and all ZDoom-family ports...

Hmm, I tried but can't reproduce this in the latest PrBoom+ 2.6um (UMAPINFO port).

Was this crash on PrBoom+ 2.5.1.4? Is it reproducible on the UMAPINFO port?

This is in the latest version of PrBoom+ (just checked, and it is indeed 2.6um)

Just exiting map01 the normal way, as it loads into map02, you can hear the MIDI begin, but then it crashes. Very strange indeed..

Hmm, would it be possible to post your PrBoom config, and the full error log? I still can't reproduce the issue.

Is this with the software or hardware renderer? Or both?

I have been able to reproduce this on 2.6um (default config, straight from extracting the zip downloaded from GitHub), but not consistently, which is very annoying. Sometimes it doesn't crash, and sometimes it even crashes before exiting the level (but after entering the exit teleporter). It's always the same error popping up in the dialog box, "Z_Free: freed a pointer without ZONEID", but unfortunately it seems this build doesn't output any additional info to the Windows command prompt.

The crash has been consistent on 2.5.1.5, or maybe I've just gotten (un)lucky, but the error I get is different (a generic signal 11 message) and similarly uninformative.

Haven't been able to reproduce on Linux, though again I'm not sure whether that's just luck or actually indicative of something.

Is there a specific command to generate a log? (Sorry, I've just never needed to do this before)

It's with prboom-plus.exe in software mode, glboom-plus.exe wasn't included in the latest build as far as I could tell (maybe it's just a command now though?)

Ah, the latest build has all renderers under one executable. But if you were using defaults, it was probably the software renderer.

For generating debugging output, you can use the command line parameter "-cout ICWEFDA" and then your console should produce the most diagnostic information. If you can paste in what it shows it may show some hints, at least at what point in the startup sequence the crash is happening.
