Since i love doom and i love it so so much and  here what i want to say So I got a friend here right and a year ago we talked and stuff and he said to me do you believe in a good place and a bad place which he mean that after you die and I said yeah and he said how do you get to that good place and I said by being good and want a another reason on how to get to that good place and he said by believe in it and I was like I more aware of this and I already know about this and then he started to say eventually if you want to go to that good place you need to stop playing doom cause in his mind he think that DOOM is evil and stuff cause of demons cause he a religious person and I was like dude it just a game and beside you are doing God dirty work to slay off demons and stuff and like when actual said that I was like in my head that hypocritical of you for saying that when you realize you played Wolfenstein and call of duty and fallout I don't know why he say that due to the fact he doesn't play doom to understand the full concept of it I played doom cause of the mayhem and the good soundtrack And This guy is still talking about to order to get to the good place I need to stop playing doom Cause he think it going to mess with my head to prevent to become a Christian and I was like dawg it just a game like call of duty and GTA for God sake LET ME PLAY MY DOOM WITHOUT BEING SHAMMED

It's funny that you bring this up too, since back in 1993 on the games release, many Christian activists denounced it and caused a ruckus to get it pulled off the market because they said it was "satanic", Guess history repeats don't it?

 

My advice? tell him to fuck off and enjoy playing doom, If he's that big of a problem the best way is to cut him out of your life, You will be alot happier with less toxic people in your life.

More seriously this is something i have talked about a few times that's getting worse with cancel culture. The conflation of depiction with endorsement. Doom is anti satan and evil. You are not saying "good job can i sign up?", you are reducing Satan's minions to red mist and chunks.

 

It is one of those stances that tells more about the person with it than the topic in question. Your friend sounds like a preachy, judgemental asshat. I am no biblical scholar but pretty sure there's something about "judge not lest ye be judged yourself" in there somewhere. 

 

Don't let people dictate to you like that. As long as what you are doing isn't unlawful and doesn't hurt anyone, do it and ignore what others say.

Your friend seems like they're taking a game where you run around a chunky block world shooting 2D demon sprites a bit too seriously.

Install the simpsons mod, it has Ned Flanders as an enemy that shoots bibles at the players. Killing him would be considered evil & that isn't in the original Doom.

 

In general, Hell spawn comes from Hell. Without a religious belief like Christianity the idea of fighting hell wouldn't exist for Doom. Even satanists don't believe in satan. You should thank your friend for helping to inspire the creation of such a great game. Call of Duty has more player-conducted "evil" crimes against the commandments, Doom is just sending hell back to where it belongs & doesn't appear to break any bible laws at all. If anything, it follows them!

Huh, somebody's taking videogames too seriously, I mean, you're playing Doom, a game about slaughtering demons yet you mention he plays CoD which is about killing other humans, it's a bit weird. Also, if he doesn't accept you for playing a videogame, and from what I'm guessing, you're not hurting anyone (not even yourself) with it, he isn't really a good friend, I'm not sure what would I do, maybe tell him to accept you for playing Doom and if he doesn't, well, he's not really your friend.

No problem. I just read it though, and yeah your friend is taking this a bit too seriously. A video game won't define your character, i hope you can overcome your differences and stuff. It would be a sucker if your friendship ended because of something this trivial, but you gotta understand his concerns, if their family is very strict about religion the fear of anything even slightly 'wrong' can be very serious.

 

Being religious or not, the demons are the baddies anyways.
