Doomkid Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) For those wondering about the 1993-1998 Doom community (and beyond), most of it can be found on old GeoCities, Angelfire and TriPod archived sites: https://doomshack.org/olddoomsites.html And a huge chunk of it is archived in the old Doom UseNet groups as well. There’s still a lot from other outside sources that wasn’t archived.. and Mad Butcher has given me about 100 MORE sites to add to the Old Doom Sites page.. but yeah, a big chunk of it is saved thanks solely to Archive.org and Google Groups. Doomworld has been the central hub of classic Doom since the early 00s, but there’s always been other stuff as well. Trying to archive it all can be kinda hard, but it’s worth it for Doom’s sake. I know a good chunk of it is - but sifting through it all is hard, especially since for the last 10+ years the pages have been relegated to spambot dumping grounds.. The Usenet era was way before my time, so I might be missing some links, but if you sift all the way back to the 90s and very early 00s, you can find the goods, and all the rec.games.computer.doom stuff seems to be saved, as well as the alt.games.doom stuff: https://groups.google.com/g/alt.games.doom https://groups.google.com/g/alt.games.doom.ii https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.computer.doom.misc https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.computer.doom.playing https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.computer.doom.announce https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.computer.doom.editing https://groups.google.com/g/rec.games.computer.doom.help Edited June 16, 2021 by Doomkid 16 Quote Share this post Link to post
The Lone Wolf Posted June 16, 2021 14 hours ago, Lippeth said: 23 years: 3 months: 3 days Yes he is 23 years old and now studying at a college and trying to find a suitable job for this summer to save some money to pay student taxes. Damn some old fellas say when he was at age 15. He was into satanism or someshit just before dope-fish became a phenomenon again. He also had his own pocket hell dimension to put naughty friends for a while. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jello Posted June 16, 2021 I found the site when I was a Freshman in highschool. I was perusing the school library and stumbled upon "Knee Deep in the Dead". I read it, and it was alright. Then I thought about the fact that I hadn't really played Doom since Quake came out, and that I should look at what was happening with Doom. 20 years later, here I am. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
The_MártonJános Posted June 16, 2021 Older than Linguica himself was when he founded it. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spladam Posted June 16, 2021 @Doomkid You just sent me down a Usenet rabbit hole of nostalgia. The best thing about Google archiving the old Usenet in Google Groups is all the folks replying to 20yo video game questions and console war flame post. It warms my heart. I often wonder how many how many folks reading Doomworld these days are younger than the forum itself. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
UnknDoomer Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) Centuries ago in a time of darkness, fury and conspiracy (that today known as WEB 1.0) there were some strangers. One of them was called Linguica and one another Not Jabba... I often wonder how many how many folks reading Doomworld these days are younger than the forum itself. And till today nobody really know who was Jabba by other hand. Edited June 16, 2021 by UnknDoomer 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SLOTH MARINE (CB) Posted June 16, 2021 I'm pretty sure doomworld was created in 1999, so that would mean it is 22 years old or approaching that age. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
lokbustam257 Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) Years = 2021-1998 = 23 Months = 276 + 6 = 282 Days = 23 years = 8395 + 180 = 8575 There you go. If you count by years, it's 23. If months, then it's 282, and if you count it by days (not accurate) it's 8575 Edited June 16, 2021 by lokbustam257 Credit to DoomWiki.org for the image 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
