Gez Posted June 21, 2021 I like both as well, but dogs are much higher maintenance as pets. Cats are much easier to live with. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaileyTW Posted June 21, 2021 I like both. Have had dogs mostly but the few cats we have taken care of here and there have been really nice. Dogs are higher maintenance but I think that can be a positive especially in a time when it can be hard to motivate yourself to do something. Feeding the dogs and playing with em, a thing they demand, is some days the only thing that gets me outside and doing something. Cats don't really demand that (I mean other than being fed, but it also depends on the cat). 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

june gloom Posted June 21, 2021 I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it's bullshit and unnecessarily divisive. They're both lovely. And I'm suspicious of anyone who doesn't like one or both of them. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dubbag Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) I love both but you can't beat the loyalty of a Dog. Dogs will love you no matter what kind of asshole you are as long as you treat them good. Hell you just know that even Hitler's dog loved him. Hitler comes home and the dog is like "YAY Hitlers home! I Love you Hitler" LOL Edited June 21, 2021 by Dubbag 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

MFG38 Posted June 21, 2021 Dogs don't jump in front of your screen and demand pats when you need to see stuff on said screen. Thus, I prefer dogs. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
OpenRift Posted June 21, 2021 Don't make me choose, that's stupid. They're both soft and I want to be friends with both. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

smeghammer Posted June 21, 2021 Cats, obviously! I just love their attitude: "Fucking feed me. Fucking let me out and now fucking let me in again and be quick about it! Now fucking feed me again. STROKE MEEEEEE!. Now fucking let me out again, human slave". And so on... 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Actually dogs do, or well not jump in front of my screen but my german shepard will somtimes try to close my laptop screen if I am not giving her enough attention. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted June 21, 2021 I love getting to know the dogs among my friends and family, but they need walkies, even if it's a Monday morning in early January and it's still dark outside and below zero with black ice. Cats can use their own little door. So having a cat would be an easy choice for me, although I do not consider pet ownership to be a responsible thing to pursue with my current living arrangements. So I just watch cute videos on YouTube... 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) 1 hour ago, Doom_Dude said: Both are fine. I thought you were going to say horses. ;) Ha. I like horses a lot but never had one. The profile pic is just because it's the first most ridiculous thing I could think of at the time. Gun to my head I would say I am a dog person first and foremost. Honestly if someone ever said they don't like dogs to my face, my brain would have the brain equivalent of a bluescreen of death and I would probably need to lie down or something. I kind of understand people being scared if they were attacked by one but I was attacked once as a kid (my own dumb fault and I have the artificial tear duct to remind me) and nearly attacked two other times. First close call I spotted the signs and was able to back out just in time, the second I was saved... by another dog named Bear whom I patted him every time I went past his house. This staffie type was in a car parked by Bear's house and jumped out and started giving me the low growl, fixed stare routine. I knew I was in trouble, and froze. This would have been... 1995, 1996ish. Well before cellphones went seriously mainstream. Did not want to make any sudden moves or yell out. But then Bear calmly came out of his spot on the porch of his place and sat down next to me as if to say "Just fucking try it bud." The other dog backed off. I tell that story not to ramble (OK, there's always a BIT of that) but because it so succinctly demonstrates my point. One bad experience with a dog should not deprive you of knowing the simple honest love and loyalty of a good dog, and there is far, far more of them than bad ones. But I like cats fine too. My lady and I have two of each. River is cute and she knows it, and is so chatty she could basically host a talk show. Rain is adorable but with a pinch of psychosis. She's gotten chattier with age as well as she's seen how we respond to River. They also hate other people so we know they will never ditch us which is nice lol. Reelvonic Posted June 21, 2021 Dogs. Cats are nice, but since my dog died, I realize I should have spent more time with her. You don't realize what you have until its gone. I love my cats, but they aren't as fun and active as dogs. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

NuMetalManiak Posted June 21, 2021 All cats are great, but as for dogs I ONLY PREFER SMALL DOGS. Spoiler I was once nearly mauled to death by a relative's American bulldog when I was 5. I've been traumatized of larger dogs ever since. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jello Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) It's a hard decision, I like them both. Dogs are more active and sympathetic, and they're more willing to learn things than cats. If a cat doesn't want to do something, it won't; dogs seem to be more ready to please people. They're lovable idiots, but they can be extremely understanding of human emotions. They're wonderful animals, and they're great to have around. There are few things funner in this world than taking your dog for a walk in the woods in a place he's never been. I still remember Charlie getting his first sniff of cow shit; he was absolutely over the moon. "I've never smelled this before, it smells great!" Then he looks at me like "This is great shit!". But they don't live that long, 7-12 years depending on the breed, and they may live longer if you're lucky. But they also have health issues more than cats, and are more prone to have allergies. And they're harder to potty train. They're just hard animals to have, but they're wonderful. Cats on the other hand, live longer, they generally have fewer health issues than dogs, less prone to allergies, and they get along just fine by themselves. And after getting Lilly, once she got used to me, she seems to really miss me when I'm gone, either at work, or for something else. She'll come running up to me and start rubbing between my legs. And she loves it when I take my boots off and she can rub against my stinky boot feet. I didn't think cats were that sentimental or affectionate, but she tends to love being around me. Except when she doesn't, then she fucks off. And that's okay, because I don't have to worry about her when she fucks off. She just wants to go and be a cat somewhere. So yeah, I love them both, for different reasons. But if you're ever thinking about getting a pet, go to your local humane society and have a look. I'm sure you'll find some ugly furry animal looking for a good home. And cats are just as loyal as dogs, they're just more aloof and don't need as much attention. But if they decide they love you, they will love you forever. If they decide they hate you, they will hate you forever. Edited June 22, 2021 by Jello 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

VoanHead Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) I love both. Dogs are very lovable and will always be by your side. Cats on the other hand, are more aloof and solitary, but when the moment comes that they want cuddles or show their more softer side are moments to be treasured. Personality, behaviors and tics and may vary. w/o trying to sound like I'm bringing the mood of this thread down... I think I'm ready to get a new dog or cat after my beloved shih-tzu, Daisy, passed away last year. Edited June 22, 2021 by VoanHead 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
