rescue86k Posted June 28, 2021 I'm working on a map, and have the realm667 extra colored keys. It should be easy but I'm trying to be accurate . What are all the "jobs/positions" of the Doom Episode 1 Knee Deep in the Dead , What is everything needed to make these facilities complete? I'll give examples what I'm applying so far to the map. I'm trying to be more accurate. -Security, Medics, Military, Maintenance, "Science"/"Laboratory" , Hazmat, Command, Then for the facilites, so far I have -Bathrooms, waste management areas, security "viewpoint" rooms, living quarters, medbay, probably need kitchen, vents airflow control? . Go as deep as you want. I'm trying to make functional facilities. To some degree. At least holding the recipe to make them "whole". The setting is Phobos orbiting mars. Its spinning so mars is sorta moving around the sides in skybox with stars. Trying to make the environment like if you were there, except not really, its being built for Zandronum so limits on things, 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted June 29, 2021 Administrator and Deputy Adminstrator. A UAC security chief with a secretary and probably a couple of other UAC guys as his lieutenants. A major would probably be in charge of whatever regiments are assigned to provide 'official' support. Now the janitorial staff. There has to be one head custodian, and then, maybe 3-4 others with a supporting role. I think there are at least 40-90 janitors spread out over the different facilities (frankly, I'm not quite sure how large everything is, though if this ids gonna be No Quarter big, I could see it going up to 200). Now scientific staff. Not counting the engineers (probably a little under 100) you have the chief scientists(including one guy technically in charge of everything), maybe 5 or 6 at the most, and then, you have the folks below them specializing in whatever research and production the Phobos facility conducts. That's never really specified, but they traffic in radioactive waste for some unexplainable reason. Truthfully, this is probably between 55-60 percent of the staff at the least, unless I'm missing some major aspect of staffing. Getting into facilities....I really think Hazmat should be isolated from the much of the rest of the base. There's basically no reason why there should be nukage pits in Command Control for instance. You could probably make a case for Central Processing(what's that?), and honestly, I know there are certain kinds of computers kept under extremely cold temperatures that would probably start to freeze you within a few minutes, but I would consider varying the amount of damage floors, maybe adding in areas where electrical outages make walking painful. Now you talk about Phobos orbiting Mars and I think, is gravity controlled here? I could see there being a whole mechanism dedicated to that, with probably at least a few people to maintain, 1 person to fix it when it breaks down (with the option for a couple of others to fill in if they aren't as busy with their own tasks) and maybe a janitor or two coming to remove food wrappers as such. I'm not really huge with the sci-fi thing, but I hope you found that helpful 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
rescue86k Posted June 29, 2021 Good good. Thank you so much for so much detailed information. At first 3-4 janitors was an issue. Make for funny terminal logs . Then you said 50 or so. The population of the entire episode is very rough estimate of 1100-1200 monsters. I think 600 or so are humans. Since the military base is just one facility, I presume it might be 100-200 guys armored plus dead marine corpse. I plan to handle the difficulty setting as a "population" setting. So the facilities can hold up towards 500-700. I'm making one room with the wall of coffins. (Beds). As wall texture. The number will match the exact amount. Imps and pinkies don't count towards pop limit. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
rescue86k Posted June 29, 2021 The freezing of computers. All that matters. Anything you know. I have to stay verbatim to original base layout. I've isolated within the nuke piles. Barrels blow up their surroundings. Wall. Floor. Using trigger. So lower wall or floor instantly. There's only 3 made to do it. All will do it. The barrels are being moved though bc every door is locked almost. I working window shutters for all windows. Lights. Circuit breaker. What else.. every locked door has already or in process of a secondary non key dangerous way to get in the next room. Vents. Other. . It's in process. The population is good. I think I'm adding solar panels. For outside. Tried to analyze Mars colony space x plan and other online visions. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
rescue86k Posted June 29, 2021 Yesterday I made the first working security cameras. If you damage camera. It won't work when you go to terminal. One made. I did 1 medbay and bathroom but nothing too special with them yet. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
rescue86k Posted June 29, 2021 There is a central hub teleporter to the command tower. Each facility has access to tower. If unlock teleporter per facility. Command tower see intermission screen map 4. It's the orange tower behind the command facility. I 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arrowhead Posted June 29, 2021 (edited) Maybe add a mess hall? All the UAC personnel need a place to sit and eat. You don't see that in Doom WADs too often. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Hell to Pay's, and that's pretty primitive. I think a mess hall added to your kitchen idea would be great! rescue86k Posted June 29, 2021 (edited) screenshot time. deleted attachments to show some, these deleted sometime later. no video, but mars moves up and down off a platform then the texture sliding etc, the windows open or close, this is already functional for 7 of 9 facilities. I kept the power gen lights off, circuit breaker on, windows closed. theres different switches. what im doing right now, is the small details that take a long time to do. I looked at mars through a website, a 3d tool, and I placed my veiwpoint on phobos, then looked at mars. and its approximately , that big. Phobos seems to orbit near. What happened during episode 1 and how teleportation works is string wrap theory in practice (made up). Generally, I'll share the story in the map when finished, it tries to use science. The terminals will explain things. For now, mars had to bob up and down, and what isn't accurate is mars would also spin 360. I couldn't fathom it so its a still image moving around skybox. Other things would need gzdoom, and open gl, because deimos is suppose to be straight up, but you cant do that in software renderer so deimos will be added, and it will look something similar a blackhole with a certain purposeful object within which is deimos, modified? Chezza Posted June 29, 2021 If a base is designed to hold people long term, one of the key facilities you can't ignore is entertainment. Give people a basketball court, movies, arcade etc. Don't forget gym. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

For some reason, the theatre is playing a Phobos nature film, with the real entertainment being a tv in some dude's room. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
rescue86k Posted June 30, 2021 I played through No quarter. The theatre didn't play a film outside of the phobos sky texture. I saw a DEH file maybe that file wasn't working. Tried to drag them into Zandronum. Wanted to watch a movie.. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I guess you could always cut the security staff so that it's maybe a third of what Staffing is. They definitely need to outnumber security by a fair bit. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Security firms pretty much only exist to satisfy insurance compainies. If it wasn't for insurance companies, I'd be in a different line of work. There is no reason to believe this would be any different in the future. EDIT: Disregard, I thought you meant to cut security completely. rescue86k Posted July 27, 2021 Okay, I think I'm finalized. This is what I'll be using. If anyone! has a problem with it, just let know. Humans at Doom Episode 1 (living at facility) = 501. Marines (21). Excluded, arrived with player. 30% Security = (233 -cut 82) = 151 55% Staffing = (195 +add 80) = 275 71 Space? Engineers No Change 77 Nuclear? Scientists (37 +40 new) 43 Theoretical? Physicists No Change 84 Hazmat? Technicians (44 +40 new) 15% Other = (73)(+2) = 75 55 Maintenance? 55 No change 20 Doctors? (18+2 new) There is other things unrelated to pop count but will close off this thread with this. Most of the arcade and things, the "No Quarter" wad is very informative of things to include where space or makes sense to do, etc. Thank you everyone for your time, however please do help correct this numbers above if you know something more. They will be in 1, maybe 2,3 terminals players can open/read. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
