leejacksonaudio Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) The question is self-explanatory: Do you watch sports? If no, why not? If yes, what do you watch? What was the most recent sport that you watched? What is your favorite sport to watch? Bring on the answers! Edited July 5, 2021 by leejacksonaudio 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Teo Slayer Posted July 3, 2021 I don't watch Sports. I just don't like them, they look kinda boring to me. Everyone goes insane when someone makes a goal in football, but I don't even see it like it's something, he just shooted a ball into the net. It's my opinion btw 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted July 3, 2021 I do watch sports. I was born in college-football-crazy Austin, TX, and raised in IndyCar-crazy and all-football-crazy Houston, TX. Those are my primary two sports, American-style football and IndyCar racing, although I also watch hockey, other forms of racing (open-wheel and IMSA sports scar / Le Mans endurance racing - NOT NASCAR!!!), and Australian Rules Football. In fact, I'm watching Adelaide and Brisbane slug it out right now: at half time, Adelaide trails Brisbane 4.4.28 to 5.6.36. Those are my major sports. I'll occasionally watch other sports if teams from Houston or the University of Texas are involved, mainly baseball and basketball. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kinker31 Posted July 3, 2021 I don't watch sports of any kind, not even any of the e-sports that are popular with the youth lately. ...or any TV, for that matter. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted July 3, 2021 I'm a sports dork so yes. Fuck the Yankees. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted July 3, 2021 If a game of just about any sport is on I like to watch it. Though I rarely keep up with a team or player. My family somewhat kept up with NFL football but mostly my dad is a serious motorsport fan, mostly NASCAR and Formula 1. A lot of my love of racing games is from him and recently I fell down the sim racing rabbit hole a bit, which by association led me to pay more attention to Formula 1. Formula E is awesome too but I keep missing the races lol. When I heard they did a race in Brooklyn that piqued my interest and the tiny tracks they race on are really neat. I was born in Manhattan so when I worked with someone who was a huge NY Rangers fan I figured I might as well watch some of their games. That just happened to be the year they got to the finals and lost. A very exciting time. I watched off and on after that as they failed to get to the finals again. Then they traded away Zuccarello my favorite at which point I'll keep very loose tabs on them at this point. They didn't even make the playoffs this year afaik Second team was this year. Last year on a whim i decided to watch the NBA finals. Jimmy Butler and bubble hero Herro took the Heat all the way to the Finals and were set to prevent the Lakers from another win. Of course that didn't happen, but I ended up watching almost every game this year. But then they clinched a playoff spot and get swept by the Bucks round one. womp womp leejacksonaudio I did see your Indy 500 thread. I was happy Helio won but I am mostly unfamiliar with Indy car so I didn't want to be called a fake fan LOL I will say despite Washington D.C. being the closest major sports hub to me I have an irrational hatred of all their teams. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted July 3, 2021 No. Sports just don't interest me at all. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bauul Posted July 3, 2021 Very rarely on TV, but in-person is a different matter. In-person sport can be brilliant fun. Not the usual "local football team" (any type of football), but the more interesting stuff. Stuff I can remember off the top of my head includes the Paralympics, the rock climbing world championship, professional slack-line balancing, dog long-jump, disc golf tournaments, women's basketball (go Seattle Storm!), Cricket matches in a picturesque English village, Mexico vs. the Bahamas in international basketball, Lucha Libre (amazing in every way), monster truck racing, hog racing, and freestyle pro kayaking. I think a lot of people who don't watch sports live think that you have to be really "into" something to enjoy it. In my experience that's not true at all: I know next to nothing about most of the above sports and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. It's not even expensive either. Half of the above events were free. Most were $10 or less to get in. There's a lot more to sports than just the local team winning on the TV. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
HavoX Posted July 3, 2021 It depends on the sport. Golf, no. (My dad is an avid golf fan, though.) Tennis, no. Racing, no. Now, baseball, basketball, football (Or handegg, for those of you outside of America, heh.), and hockey (Or, in my case, ice burger. :P )... now we're getting somewhere. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Endingghost Posted July 3, 2021 Yes. Pretty much exclusively Football (soccer for Americans) it's probably one of my only interests that I have had longer than Doom. I am Scottish so I support the Scottish National Team (even though we're crap) and my club is Rangers FC. Other than that I sometimes watch American football on the rare occasion that it is actually broadcast in the UK but the rules have never ceased to confuse the hell out of me. Tennis is meh. I have respect for Golf given that it was invented here but I haven't watched a game since I was six years old. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Yugiboy85 Posted July 3, 2021 No. I don't watch sports although, on big occasions (like the current euro for example), I do look at the results of some matches out of curiosity. But other than that, nope. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Astronomical Posted July 3, 2021 I'll watch sports if I'm watching it with someone who cares about the sport. That energy rubs off on me in a way that allows me to watch it without being board. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

lokbustam257 Posted July 3, 2021 I watch sports, especially football, but I rarely watch those since they are pretty boring to me, though it's somehow satisfying to look at. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted July 3, 2021 As a Bruins fan, rooting for the Habs in the Cup Finals is like cheering on the bully in grade school who knocked you down and stole your lunch money. Rooting for the Bolts is like sending a thank you card to the guy who pulls a bag over your head and punches your teeth in before stealing your wallet. Oh and he does this every year at least once. #TeamMeteor 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doom_Dude Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) I watch hockey. Last night I watched the Habs get smoked by the Tampa Bay Lightning. heh. My favorite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. I've been watching hockey since the 70's and I remember using it as an excuse to get to stay up later with my Dad. He usually watched whatever team was playing when he turned on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday. We used to play street hockey when I was a kid. Good times. [edit] Sometimes I'll watch baseball. Demion Posted July 3, 2021 I'm from Argentina, so I watch football, which in USA it's called soccer. I like football as a spectacle, I'm not so crazy about it. If some match is boring, i stop watching. Once in a while, I watch tennis and basketball. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lippeth Posted July 3, 2021 As a kid I passively enjoyed the idea of sports. Then one day on the playground at school we were playing basketball when the game stopped while everyone argued about the score and it quickly turned into a fight. Since then I've never really gotten the appeal or understood how it could be taken so seriously. Competitive attitudes and my own don't really mesh too well when things turn competitive, I sort of space out and we end up finding each other a bit frustrating to be around. That being said, if I'm around the right people I can enjoy the spectacle of something like American football, but I find myself alienated from most sport-loving cultures. I've been involved in betting pools and even those get weirdly competitive and I've seen a few fights break out and friendships ended over that. But for some reason I can absolutely enjoy ice hockey, though I never care who wins. It's very enjoyable to watch that sort of teamwork and brutal finesse. I used to play the NHL games on PS2 with a friend who loved hockey and it sort of rubbed off on me. If I had to pick a team it would be the NJ Devils (mainly because of the Seinfeld episode about them), and I actually went to a game where their old goalie was playing for the St. Louis Blues. They put him in for the third period and not a single shot got past him, and that was great to see. I still play NHL 2004 on PC occasionally and always pick him as my goalie. Also the Broad Street Bullies is a great documentary. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Noiser Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) As a Brazilian, we have a moral obligation to either love or hate soccer. I'm on the second category. Just kiddin heh... but yea. There's nothing wrong with them actually, but it's not for me. I don't have patience to follow the ball going to the left and to the right. A good amount of sports tend to have that repetitive nature and it just bores me to death. 2 hours ago, Bauul said: Very rarely on TV, but in-person is a different matter. Sena Posted July 3, 2021 I don't watch any sport, but every time the football's on I can always hear my dad scream every time his team scores a goal, so, against my own wishes, I am still made aware of the fact that it is being played. And, against my wishes, he has to be Welsh, and they're not particularly good at football, and he gets mad whenever they lose, which is not the best combination. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

yakfak Posted July 3, 2021 I like tennis, mmm the scoring system is so clever, it always results in a decisive victory. but the commentary is always painful and you end up very conscious of the way everyone involved is rich as heck. one on one sports in general are more interesting to me? I like the olympic fencing and judo n stuff too 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheGreenZap Posted July 3, 2021 I watch basketball more than anything. I grew up in Indiana, so I’ve always been into basketball. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
LexiMax Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) I don't watch them live, but I keep up with them. It's a great ice-breaker when you're meeting people you don't know. Besides, sports are a game. They're real life games and not video games, but they're games nonetheless. They have rules, they have win/lose states, and the way most of these games are played has evolved and changed significantly over time, and I always find that stuff interesting to read about. Like this here, on the history of dribbling in the NBA: Quote James Naismith's original rules said nothing about dribbling, merely stating that passing the ball was the legal way of advancing it. Players soon developed the strategy of "passing to themselves", which Naismith himself both endorsed and admired for its ingenuity, and which evolved into the dribble as it is known today. The discovery an unintended loophole in the rules of a game, later becoming one of the cornerstones of play. Now where have I heard that story before? BaileyTW Posted July 3, 2021 Used to watch hockey here and there but just kinda lost the motivation to keep up with it and it kinda gets less enjoyable not keeping up with it so don't think I'm gonna get back into hockey any time soon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arrowhead Posted July 3, 2021 Big time Vancouver Canucks fan here. Hopefully we won't lose our entire late season to disease this time! Fingers crossed. Really though, hockey is the only thing on tv I watch nowadays. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) Only occasionally. If there's some big sporting event like the Euro or World Cup, I might watch some game (usually halfway or towards the end, seldom from the beginning unless it's the finals), or the recent Tennis championships, or maybe some F1/MotoGP on Sundays. But I don't regularly follow any particular sport, team, or individual athlete. Edited July 3, 2021 by Maes 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
out_of_service Posted July 3, 2021 Nah, I don't watch sports. I'll check out the Olympics when they're on though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
