What color is your doomguy?

Candy Apple Red.

 

..Which unfortunately is only available in Software mode with 8-bit colors - If you use TrueColor or OpenGL, the red gets turned into this muted/faded color that lacks the "shine" that's meant to be on the armor.. In fact, this happens to most colors when using TrueColor. It's weird just how superior 8-bit color looks in Doom!

 

The difference is minor but no shininess = no fun

I'm going with a slightly off-white at the moment, although for the majority of my Dooming career I've defaulted to dark-green/bluish-green colors.

I typically choose a drab colour similar to that of zombiemen, to easily camouflage in the techbases. I'm probably supposed to choose bright colours when playing cooperative, though...

I usually go with red since red is my favourite colour. Otherwise I leave it as the default green.

 

Back when I played multiplayer (way back in the 00's) I would often use teal for co-op.

 

Problem was I would also use that for deathmatch. Probably not the smartest choice. I can't say I was oblivious as to why I used to get so much ammunition thrown at me, it's generally not a good idea to run around with a bright colour in any free-for-all PvP setting.

 

As soon as someone spotted me it was like 'I found him! There's that fancy bright teal prick!' and it always descended into a survival match for me. 

 

Remember that scene from Predator where they go full ham on the jungle trees and underbrush with miniguns and automatic weapons? Just tearing shit up and dumping several tons of lead into the brush? Now throw some 'aarrgghh!' into the blender (just imagine the sound the suicide guys from Valiant make) and you have an apt description, but I stubbornly refused to change it.

 

Even my own brother used to hit me with stray rockets in co-op. I always suspected it was because of the teal. He denied it of course but I couldn't help but be paranoid about it.

 

So yes, teal would be my second choice but due to the past events I tend to see it as colour that triggers extreme hate/jealousy. It might seem like a calm and soothing colour but don't be fooled, some primal instinct within makes us secretly loathe it with every fibre of our being.
