The world's most expensive burger has just been created

That doesn't really look or sound all that appealing. I get the impression the creator cared more about creating a burger that's expensive, rather than one that's cohesive and palatable. I'd try it, but I wouldn't pay $7,390.20 Canadian for one.

I wish all cultures across the world uniformly hated shit that is expensive just for the sake of being expensive. Wealth flexes in general are fucking disgusting, especially given how many people have to go without basic amenities. This also looks “regular disgusting” on top of that.

Doomkid nailed it. This kinda stuff really gets under my skin. I would even bet money that didn't even eat the damn thing. Cooked it, took photos of it and called it a day. Fuck rich people.

Well, the article says:

"As per an official statement by the restaurant, the first edition of the Golden Boy is sold in June for €5000 and was eaten by Rober Willemse, chairman of the Royal Dutch Food and Beverage Association. It also stated that the whole amount was donated to the food bank to buy food packages for the needy."

So people really are eating these things, apparently. At least once, anyway.

The cynic in me reckons that the proceeds from that first burger were given to charity as part of a promotional stunt. I've no idea how Dutch tax law works, so I couldn't say whether such a donation counts as tax-deductible for the restaurant in question. Businesses in the US and UK certainly love doing charitable stuff as it lowers their tax liabilities.

Well... allow me to apologize for my sudden burst of anger. As @CBM I really hope all the money from those "burgers" goes towards helping others. But even with charity organizations I remain skeptical. I apologize for the anger... but that burger looks gross... I will die on this hill :)

I would guess that your theory is correct. It always baffles me that chains like joe and the juice (juice at inflated prices), starbucks (coffee at inflated price) etc can even exist at all

This isn't the first time someone created a "premium" burger with Kobe beef, gold leafs, black bread or the such. But sure is the most expensive so far. It makes those $600 burgers eaten by 50cent and the such look like mystery meat hotdogs, in comparison.

The anger is not entirely unwarranted, in my opinion. I don't think the charitable donation would even be happening if the organisers weren't at least somewhat aware of how the whole "bougie burger" thing made them look. Whether or not such move are genuinely motivated or not, I can't say.

People are willing to pay a premium for convenience, even it means the quality suffers.

 

But also the low quality of food and drink can be concealed with loads of sugar, fat and/or salt, substances that are highly attractive to our primate brains and bellies because of their rarity in the ancestral environment. But with modern agriculture and industry, such substances that were once rare are now very common and cheap, and hence we have obesity and diabetes.

true, as an example... me and my family ordered fast food instead of making proper dinner today... but the burger in question is more about flexing money than convinience

Brands are a "known quantity" to the customer. It's why companies like McDonald's work their hardest to make sure that the food their franchisees produce is exactly the same all across the board, often to a psychotic degree.

I sometimes makes burgers for my family for dinner. My Wifes favorite is when I make chicken burgers.

I think the easy answer to this burger is the fact that having boatloads of money makes you a "conformist" in the sense that the "quality and price" factor doesn't matter anymore, this burger as far of being a burger is just an investment for those who can afford it, in other words, it's a sham!
