Publishers aren't always the ones who take sole responsibility in determining the direction a game/series takes, nor does it indicate that they intend to apply it to more than just a spin-off. You're really stretching this out. Also, like DOOM hasn't had a "cartoony cutesy factor" since the beginning when, among other things, the Cacodemon and especially the Pain Elemental exist lmao. yakfak Posted July 17, 2021 its just an overly franchised game, happens to all the big ones. like Tekken lore's just a bunch of abuse but you can make your favourite exploited character wear a ducky inner tube while they fight cos nothing matters 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Antkibo Posted July 17, 2021 "Cute" is not the word, but "toned down to avoid hurting people sensitivities." And this is happening all over the place. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Making the Doom monsters look cute and lovable is something the community has been doing since the nineties. It looks like they've decided to recycle the "toy models" of the monsters and player, created as collectible items, ad to make a game out of it. Good for them, I'd say, if it was actually a game. And not a bunch of monetization schemes with a Doom-themed coat of paint. Honestly I have zero problem with Mighty Doom's aesthetics. That part's perfectly fine. It's everything else about it that's wrong. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Scrabbs Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) Not at all, I’m not the biggest fan of the new doom games. But what they got right is how gorey they could get Edited September 28, 2021 by Scrabbs 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr.Rocket Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) I'd say it's all in the eye of the beholder as Doom is the exact same game as it was when it first came out. That said, the game doesn't become something else, the OP just envisions it differently as he/she use to. Edited July 17, 2021 by Mr.Rocket 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

The classic Doom was colourful but it was what we had in terms of technology at the time, I feels like the actual doom could be more darker, scary and disturbing, just as Doom 3 was, like classic doom was a game able to give me nightmares when I was kid, the same with the doom 3, but Doom Eternal and now with the DLCs I just feels like it's a alright game, not even that hard to swallow just kinda funny. I can 100% guarantee you that there are kids now who are the age you were when you first played the original Doom that feel the exact same way about 2016 and Eternal. The newer games absolutely have a different look and vibe to them, but this personally perceived change in tone has less to do with the game itself changing and more to do with people themselves changing and growing up.
