How do I start creating a freedoom / chex / doom wad?

Hi friends! I have a very big doubt, how can I start a wad like Freedoom / hexen / chex / doom? What tools do I need? I have hundreds of programs on my hard drive, both new and old, but if there is one that is very little known and is needed for this type of work, I would appreciate your sharing it, greetings friends!

how could i start I want to change everything, how do I get the gz / lz engine to recognize the wad it creates if I change the name?

I'd reccomend getting Ultimate Doom Builder, I've used it for maps and it works quite well, plus be sure to check out tutorials online, this series is the first one that came up fro me so watch that I guess :)

I want to create a new wad like freedoom, that does not need doom 2 or doom ultimate, that is the same wad of doom 2 but with textures, maps and modified text, all modified, I understand? I use google translator to talk to you, sorry if you do not understand me completely well

do you want to create maps for doom similar to stuff like Scythe or Doom the way ID did or do you want to make a different or semi different game in the doom engine?

what you want to create is an iwad

I want to do what the freedoom team did, create a new wad to run in lz / gz
Like this wads, the ones you need to play in lz / gz :)

ah so you want to make an iwad or total conversion, well Ultimate Doom Builder will at least help make maps, but I'm not that sure about the rest.

I have lots of tutorials on the (mostly) non-mapping side of Doom modding, all the techniques will work for Freedoom or Chex as well, or for making your own project from scratch. Hopefully they will help you a bit!
