Most Satisfying Enemy to Kill.

What's the most satisfying enemy to kill in any doom engine game( Heretic, Hexen, Strife, Hacx, Freedoom, etc.) in your opinion?

Mine are the chaos serpents from Hexen.

The Pinky, hands down. Sandy Petersen may be right that Quake's Fiend is a "better" version of the monster in the sense that it is actually dangerous, but nothing beats blasting a Pinky with both barrels (of a Supershotgun) or driving through one with a Chainsaw.

 

Damn... talking about Doom's gameplay really makes me sound like an absolute psychopath. ーー'

For me personally, nothing's more satisfying than gunning down a room filled with low-tier demons with the chaingun. That shit never gets old, I swear.

Definitely a cyberdemon, owing to its threat level and its glorious death animation. Also cause it has the most health and I'm so glad to finally get rid of one by the time I finished shooting it until it dies.

For me, it has to be the barons and hell knights. I love waning down their health with the chaingun, and then blasting them with the super shotgun at point blank range.

The Arch-vile. One, there's no need to worry about him reviving his buddies once he's dead, and two, I feel like a badass everytime I kill him without taking a hit from him.

Gibbing fodder enemies is one of my favourite things to do in Doom. Mmmm... so satisfying.

 

Killing Archviles is also really fun, partially due to their high threat-level and partially due to their fantastic death sound. "Whywhywhywhy..." indeed.

 

Finally, two-shotting Cybers with the BFG is glorious, for all the reasons NuMetalManiak mentioned.

E1M2, gibbing zombimen by shooting the barrels.

 

More specifically, the one upstairs near the red key.

 

Also the double gibbing barrel right after you open the door, early on in E1M3.

I have multiple candidates and can't really say I like one better than the others.
Naturally, fodder enemies get a ridiculous boost through the mechanic of gibbing. Rocketing imps and zombies in big numbers is just really fun.
That unfair advantage aside, Arachnotrons and Archviles are both really satisfying to kill, which I would mostly attribute to their wonderful death animation and their bold and impactful death sounds.
Last but not least, while the death sound of a singe revenant can easily get lost in the noise, killing groups of revenants at once is a pleasure, the ambulant cracking of their bones almost feeling like a massage for the ears.

Besides going around and killing a whole swarm of hell spawn like imps, zombies and cacos, killing Arachnotrons are pretty satisfying.

Revenants are unrivaled. They - being one of the most versatile enemies that can easily kick your ass - have a clicky sound (possibly bones colliding together) upon dying that provides a very satisfactory feedback to players.

One-shotting a single imp with the shotgun feels pretty nice, and bludgeoning ettins with the cleric's mace has a nice crunchy sound to it.

I really like using the rocket launcher on Barons. It's fun.

I also like to hear the rattling death of a Revenant, because I hate those son-of-a-bitches.

The shotgun/ssg randomizer mechanics are surely interesting, because some monsters will take exactly 1,2 or 3 good SSGs, while others will vary.

 

Definitelly the pinky with SSG, especially when many come to you and you dispatch one by one after hearing their hitting the ground sound, while avoiding them cornering you.

Second pick, maybe the arachnotron with 3 good SSGs and the sound they make. And the relief when you don't have to hear their obnoxious sound anymore.

Third pick the revenants with 2 good SSGs, after you successfully side strafed their homing missiles (and hopefully they hit a wall in your left or right instead of coming back to you)

 

Then it's satisfying when you are lucky and 2 SSGs do kill a Caco, on shotgun does kill a heavy machine gun, or one shotgun one imp for rows of 5-6-7 without the randomizer breaking the flow.

Clearly it's all of them. Doom 2's cast of monsters all share extremely satisfying death animations, and many of those animations flow well with killing any demon.

Killing a pinky w/ a single SSG blast has to be one of the finer pleasures on Earth.

 

And its so easy to do, too!

I'm partial to SSGing arachnotrons, point blank SSGing revenants, rocketing mancubi, and punching pinkies. If I had to pick one I think I'd go with SSG + arachnotrons. Something about being able to see the bullet spread on the spider model and then their awesome death sound really butters my biscuit.
