ducon Posted April 18, 2024 (edited) ↑ This one is in my list. Read: The second book of lost tales, that are old tales, written before the Silmarillion. England is still present, Ælfwine too, and character names are nor always the same (even Sauron is absent, he is a cat demon in Beren and Tinúviel). It also contains previous versions of the fall of Gondolin, Tinúviel or of Turambar. Then: Also read: Wow what a hard book to read. His English is mixed with Indian slang and words and strange syntactical creations. The main character, who is a Muslim with an Indian culture, was born that special night of 1947 in India with a bunch of other children: midnight’s children. What else? Oh, one of the midnight’s children is a witch named Parvati. Yes, like in Harry Potter. Is it a coincidence? I don’t think so. And now: It’s about stupidity in politics, for example Stalin lovers and fascists in the 30’s and in the 50’s, or islamo-leftists. Good book but it’s more a catalogue of examples than a critic of stupidity. Moreover, I expected a critic of the critics of stupidity (and how they also can be stupid themselves). And now: When Fitz learns how to kill, how not to be seen, why not to kill. Next: Finished: Every wannabe mathematician knows his work in calculus (epsilons and deltas), he was also modest as fuck and an original teacher. Then: Everybody should know that al-Khwarizmi became algorithm but I did not know that he was also an astronomer. Next: I vaguely knew that he worked on conics but not that much and not only on conics. Wow. Then: I knew his name but not that he was such a precursor. Next is: Also starting: Edited May 18, 2024 by ducon 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

VICE Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) Poor choice of cover photography IMO but the book itself is super tight. I come back to this one every few years to remind myself of all the options and techniques. Edited June 1, 2024 by VICE 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

P_A_Z Posted June 1, 2024 (edited) 2 hours ago, prfunky said: Because I never can read enough dated technical manuals... I don't touched a Linux distribution since, pfiou, 2011-2012. I enjoyed Ubuntu and OpenSUSE in multiboot with windows 7, the first was more pretty. I remember that there was a packet to put all the desktop in 3D. That was funny. I think Ubuntu was more pleasant to use than SUSE, i remember that it was perfect to listen to music and to make some playlists, and more. ducon Posted June 16, 2024 (edited) Read: I know the Cayley-Hamilton (or Hamilton-Cayley) theorem but I did not know that he were such a gentle giant in abstract algebra. Then: Finished: A version of the Silmarillion (first age) as a long poem, with many drafts and comments. Then: Edited June 20, 2024 by ducon 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
