OliveTree Posted September 10, 2023 (edited) so a patron saint is a protecting saint, its literally what it means, patron coming from "patronus" which was a latin term meaning protector. This differs from the use of the word patron to mean benefactor for the art of someone else. A patron saint is someone who provides protection, often regarding a specific area which they specifically heavily advocate (regional or conceptual, ie spring). Patron deities are a concept as well although one that is moreso associated with like, modern pagan movements from what I can tell, but it has a lot of overlap with the greek and roman tutelary deity, which is a deity who similarly protects and provides for a specific place, concept, person, etc. A patron goddess (ive seen people use the term "matron diety" but matron is not interchangable with patron and essentially means "wife") would be a goddess who does this, in this case, for the cascadian bard association. I can't find any evidence that such a thing exists unrelated to ladymistdragon's title, but would like to know more if it does. addendum: if someone replies to this thread in the time it takes me to write the above i will detonate the charges under this building edit: this building is safe, for now Edited September 10, 2023 by OliveTree 0 Share this post Link to post
OniriA Posted September 10, 2023 (edited) ..What? Edited September 10, 2023 by OniriA 0 Share this post Link to post
OliveTree Posted September 10, 2023 12 minutes ago, OniriA said: ..What? "nom-binary" also, per ur custom title: nocturnal means awake at night, and pizzacat is a combination of pizza, the food (its kind of like a savory tart but w/ a flat wheat-based non-pastry crust, typically topped with tomato sauce and cheese alongside other ingredients of the cook's choice), and cat (these are small beasts who were domesticated by humans about 10,000 years ago and in that time have accomplished mostly the privilege to vibe and share company with us in exchange for food and the aforementioned company). so a nocturnal pizzacat is probably a cat with some relationship to pizza (maybe it is a pizza? maybe it eats pizza?) who is awake at night. 0 Share this post Link to post

OliveTree Posted September 19, 2023 (edited) well, no replies in a few days but i feel like ive already said all there could possibly be to say ab ladymistdragon's custom title. well, i guess i never elaborated on the term "cascadian bard association". so per that: cascadia is a proposed geographical region typically understood to contain the northwestern american states as well as some adjacent canadian provinces. its exact boundaries and specifications vary, but British Columbia, Canada as well as the US states of Washington and Oregon are the most persistent inclusions. The titular landmark of Cascadia are the Cascade Mountains, a mountain range spanning from Washington state to Northern California. A bard meanwhile is loosely understood in a modern context to mean a poet and/or storyteller, especially one who uses musicality for their craft. According to wikipedia, historically, a bard would be employed by some patron to deliver their praises and retell stories related to their ancestors. So that might synergize with the use of "Patron" in this custom title, but "bard" here is probably referring to its colloquial use as the Dungeons and Dragons playable character class, a definition of player ability that focuses on artistic expression and arcane magic. In role-playing contexts, bards are typically characterized as high-charisma smooth talkers or as being really really horny for whatever reason, but there are a number of valid ways to employ the class as a player. So I guess the "Cascadian Bard Association" is probably an association of people from the Cascadian region of North America who identify as bards either in real life or in a roleplaying context, and this is the association which LadyMistDragon is a patron goddess of. For more analysis on what a patron goddess probably is, see my earlier post on the subject, or maybe yknow ask her yourself Edited September 19, 2023 by OliveTree 0 Share this post Link to post
