what resolution do you play doom on

Recommended Posts

Lately, I’ve been cranking it to the max. I have an ultra-wide monitor so I’m actually at 3840x1080 resolution with modern-type source ports like DSDA or GZDoom.

On DOSBox & Choco/crispy doom I also use a nice CRT filter (lottesCRT via reshade). For me, it feels a hell of a lot more “real” at that resolution with an appropriate CRT filter.

Sadly software mode is a bit more input laggy in DSDA, and Crispy doesn't have complevel 9/11/21 + advanced demo tools.

You could try Woof, it's kinda like Crispy but with support for those complevels.

I think it's a bit more floaty, than Crispy (which has the best software feel, together with Chocolate), but doesn't have OpenGL to make up for it, and DSDA's demo/prac tools are better tbh. It's a cool source port though, and it's steadily getting better.

Mainly 320*200 or 640*480. Sometimes 800*600. IMO 4:3 is always a better choice when playing old FPSes or modern boomer-shooters. But for other modern games I don't mind 16:9 resolution.

320x200 (actually 240), 4:3 aspect ratio, with integer scaling.

Sometimes 640x400 (480) still in 4:3 but without integer scaling since it can't scale on my 1366x768 laptop.

If I play on Dosbox or 86box obviously I play on 320x200, 4:3 aspect ratio and 35fps. But mainly, for vanilla stuff I play using Crispy Doom 640x400 or whatever the equivalent is for 16:10 aspect ratio (1920x1200 native in my monitor). I found that the best compromise between a more nostalgic feel and screen readability. Also I run it with uncapped framerate.

For more advanced mods I use Gzdoom with opengl renderer and my native desktop resolution (1920x1200).
