Initially, there are very few 3D floors on the map, and the general shape was created using several tiers of sector portals (Action 57: Sector Set Portal). This screenshot shows an early map version, with an unfinished rebuild (I changed it a lot to improve optimization). 5 fps, yes this is already a legend, but keep in mind that I made this map on my old PC with a very weak CPU (on modern machines fps is much better). 4 hours ago, bLOCKbOYgAMES said: Yeah so when I am incredibly rich and famous, could you come and design my house? Chris Hansen Posted July 23, 2021 Amazing screenshots in this thread! Love it! If someone out there questions why we're still making levels for this old game and they don't believe that we can still make it look good, then just point them to this thread. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

It is scary to think that for every Dragonfly and Xaser and other (rightly) celebrated mappers, there may be 9 more astonishingly creative and talented Doomers out there. We haven't scratched the surface. Also great post btw. Nah Don't sweat it. U fine! {ninja edit: three quotes in a row from the same post has gotta be something of a record.} Edited July 23, 2021 by bLOCKbOYgAMES 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
smeghammer Posted July 23, 2021 I was particularly pleased with the way my Corporate Nightmare map looked. The 1-way smoked mirror glass worked really nicely: 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted July 23, 2021 all my most detailed stuff gets abandoned, things get too linedeffy for my laptop and I become sad. alas =P I guess I got this big church organ into the WMC02 pack though <3 all the lines in this level were shading but people managed to get lost anyway 13 Quote Share this post Link to post

Horus Posted July 23, 2021 Definitely my latest release, Viscous Realms, that one took me quite a while haha. Was also my first foray into the world of mapping with OTEX 18 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted July 23, 2021 Hehe, my post was mostly a joke :) in truth I’m glad to see people pushing Doom in new and interesting directions more and more with each year that goes by. What would really worry me would be mass stagnation! As this thread makes clear, Doom’s journey is nowhere near over.. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Peccatum Mihzamiz Posted July 23, 2021 I think that would have to be my upcoming map BFTree, both in terms of beauty and construction skills. It's the first UDMF project I started and I've steadily learned about 3D floors, ACS, slopes and models as I progress more in this level. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chopkinsca Posted July 23, 2021 So much good stuff in this thread. It's a bit hard for my head to not feel so inadequate. Awesome works. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
stewboy Posted July 23, 2021 I was trying to think through some of my recent maps to find an example I'm really proud of, and I think I'd have to go with MAP06 from my Eternity project - and in particular, this one small section. I made it have complete rotational symmetry around the central walkway axis, and it took a while to make over several mapping sessions. The thing is, there's no particular point to it. You don't have any fights here, because they wouldn't really work. You just walk right through it in the map and might not even notice it. It exists solely because making symmetric things satisfies some inner desire within my weird brain. 19 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bauul Posted July 23, 2021 I've done a fair amount of stuff I think turned out well (even if most of it hasn't been released yet!), but this spiral staircase from a recent Elementalism map I was particularly proud at how well it materialized. In fact the whole map came together rather nicely. 21 Quote Share this post Link to post
