doomguykiller69 Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) What is the map / building that you are most proud of or that you consider to be the most beautiful? It can be your construction or one that you saw on a map! Edited July 20, 2021 by doomguykiller69 11 Quote Share this post Link to post

BedrockCastle Posted July 21, 2021 Best thing I've ever seen in Doom? Scythe 2 MAP27, Afterlife 2 Everything about that map is perfect. The visuals, the music, the length, the difficulty. Everything. Truly feels like the apex of Scythe 2, it's all downhill from there. Erik Alm is a master. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Omniarch Posted July 21, 2021 I've made a lot of "visual prototypes" over the last few months, some of which I'm quite pleased with. None of them have ever been turned into full maps, but at least my grasp of the aesthetic side of Doom mapping has noticeably improved. That one is probably my favourite, though there are a few others I like as well, spoliered for convenience: Spoiler 34 Quote Share this post Link to post

Very tasteful use of slopes and 3D floors, not to mention the texture work. If it weren't for the items scattered about, I wouldn't even think this was a Doom map! That fact that you made this during Eviternity's development makes question your humanity... Perhaps someone left Oblige running for too long, and it became a sapient map-making machine! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

PeterMoro Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) This was fun to make and looks cool in game. Takes place over an epic final boss fight including every DoomII monster, a Speider master mind and 2 Cyberdemons. Edited July 21, 2021 by PeterMoro 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jaska Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) Still "Lost civilization 1" map 20. Quite sure I will never do anything as big, complex and nonlinear. In terms of testing maps, this never felt boring because of so many routes you can take. https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/105215-lost-civilization-22-map-fun-and-nonlinear-megawad-now-with-download-link/ Edited July 21, 2021 by Jaska Typ's 32 Quote Share this post Link to post
Deadwing Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) These two maps for Ozônia. Probably my favorite regarding mood and visuals so far. Edited July 21, 2021 by Deadwing 19 Quote Share this post Link to post
MattFright Posted July 21, 2021 My upcoming map for the Doom Maximum Project 2021 (that i might somehow still miss the deadline for), mainly this one small arena in it which shifts layout constantly as you press switches around until you can reach the exit. It's not even fully done (because as you can imagine it's a fucking pain to do) and it's already using 150ish tags just for all the moving geometry and lifts. I also like to use it as proof that you absolutely CAN use a shitton of different texture packs with OTEX and still have it look nice :P 29 Quote Share this post Link to post
LordEntr0py Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) This area in my most recent map Neoplasm: Currently in RAMP, but I'll release it separately later this year as part of a minisode. Edited July 21, 2021 by LordEntr0py 36 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted July 21, 2021 This fun contraption. It may not be the nicest looking, but it's definitely the one I had the most fun making. And it turned out so well too. It's certainly not the usual "One Xth of the puzzle has been solved..." thing. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doom_Dude Posted July 21, 2021 Hmmm hard to choose. I guess it might be this unfinished Phage map. I love ruined places and designing a Fallout-ish map with lots of clutter, furniture and such is a lot of fun. I haven't been able to work on it, due to making WMC levels, some single maps for other projects and my own stuff including three megawads (Vilecore 1.2, Vilecore II and the NDCP remaster).... 33 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) http://imgur.com/JJp5rhj http://imgur.com/4qKkJut It's not much to look at but I always enjoy the nice little simple and dare I say quaint stuff like these areas I did for Nova 2, they're pleasing. SiMpLeToNiUm Posted July 21, 2021 Aesthetically, this final arena of Lorenzo and I's Mapwich 1 map is one of my favorites I've done. 18 Quote Share this post Link to post

KeaganDunn Posted July 21, 2021 Going off of stuff I have released, it would definitely be MAP06 of Bloodbath: Hell's Deepest. A magnum opus paying a small homage to God Machine, and constructed with only the stock textures. Quite a bit of work went into the lighting and various architecture, as well as the difficult setpieces inside it. I built this thing in a matter of weeks back in January 2021, half a year into my mapping career. Although it won't be long before it will be easily beaten by my WIP single-map project: Dwelling. (SELF PROMOTION LOL) 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

peach freak Posted July 22, 2021 (edited) Not exactly beautiful (I can't detail maps to save my life), but with the use of dummy sectors I was able to make this well where the water empties out and reveals a staircase. This is from my Resident Evil-based map that mirrors the water draining out of the well near the end of the game to reveal the lab entrance: Edited July 22, 2021 by peach freak 16 Quote Share this post Link to post
