MFG38 Posted July 22, 2021 (edited) After 3x3 and its spiritual sequel, here comes another community project hosted by your homie MFG38! This one is based off an idea I had at work today. You know how in speedmapping sessions, you're often given a theme and/or restriction to work with? Well, this project sort of takes after the same idea - only instead of a theme, each mapper is given a random map title. RULES & GUIDELINES IWAD is Doom 2, map format is Boom (complevel 9). Mappers of all skill levels and mapping styles are welcome to participate. Map slots will be filled out in order of confirmation of participation. That means no reserving specific map slots! Your map MUST use the map title you are given as its map name! That's the only restriction. Other than that, go nuts. Maps made for this project are to be primarily single-player. Coop and deathmatch implementation is optional. This is NOT a speedmapping project. You're free to work on your map as much as you want, as many days a week as you want, and make it as big as you can in the allotted time. See the "How to participate" section below for the submission deadline. Only one map slot will be allowed per participating mapper. Custom music and textures are both allowed. Please avoid making death exits. HOW TO PARTICIPATE Make a post in this thread saying you wish to participate. Wait for a post from me with your randomly generated map title. You will be tagged in the post with your map title, so keep an eye on your notifications (or just this thread) so you don't miss it. Also, please note that you may have to wait a few hours (or up to 24) to get your map title depending on whether I'm at work, sleeping or neither. Jot your map title down somewhere and make a map inspired by it. Submit your finished map by August 22nd @ 11.59am GMT. The map slot is definitive unless someone in an earlier slot fails to meet the submission deadline. You can generally make your map as easy or hard as you want to, but the rule of thumb when it comes to projects with pre-determined map slots is to balance the difficulty with consideration to its respective placement. This is a really fun idea, and like OrganGrinder just said, the titles you've already come up with are fantastic (and instantly get the creative juices flowing). Sign me up! TheOrganGrinder Posted July 22, 2021 @MFG38 Question: if using custom textures, should those be included with the submitted map, or if I'm drawing from a single large resource (e.g. cc4-tex or OTEX) is it more useful to just state the resource WAD and let you incorporate the needed textures as part of the compilation process?
