Opinions on getwad wad program for zdaemon

Recommended Posts

Not everyone knows this program because it sucks it only works with sites that exists which is bullshit my heart was pumping high when I thought I found a wad I wanted but enough with the rant let's talk about the program most people who use it only uses dogsoft for it because according to the person who owns it downloading is disabled until you get getwad which sucks what a waste of disk space if you cannot use it to get unknown wads dogsoft does have unknown or other words not existing files but it's nothing really interesting not any wads that I'm still looking for so my opinion it sucks only useful for dogsoft.net

What are your options on it?

If I were you, I wouldn't use that program. You can search for WADs on Id Games or here, you don't need a WAD detector

If OP is trying to find obscure wads that aren't on the archive, that won't do any good. A lot of Zandronum stuff especially is floating around out there, having never seen the light of day on Doomworld or the archive. That's kind of like saying "you don't need to use Google to find the song you want, just use Spotify or iTunes", when the vast majority of music hasn't ever been released on either service.

what, you mean something like Doomseeker?

Getwad is a program that allows you to get wads automatically without going to the web but you would have to remember the wad name if you don't it will download a deh file instead

That Serious Skulltag one does seem totally lost. I've spent the last twenty minutes on Google trying to find it. There was a Rapidshare link, but apparently Rapidshare is no more. It sucks that a lot of stuff will be lost due to file sharing sites going under.

I agree Serious skulltag was golden but it was mostly just stuff that you can find today but some of it was modified monsters that you can't find but luckily my friend has remade them which his name was plats.

Well, it does its job most of the time, so no complaints from me. I doubt most ZDaemon users even acknowledge its existence, let alone form an opinion on it (unless it fails to retrieve That One PWAD you desperately need NOW...)

Like any search engine GetWAD needs parameters to know "what" you're looking for. (This could very well apply to the DoomSeeker equivalent WadSeeker)

For instance one of the default repository locations it looks through tends to be dogsoft; if others do need to be added it is possible to let us know about them.

However it'll otherwise resort to search through Google if the wad you're looking for cannot be found in the default list of repositories; if it then cannot be found via the Google search then the default methods are unfortunately out of luck.

Either way if you happen to know other sites that contain doom WADs and want to include them, then in the ZDaemon Launcher you'd go to Settings -> GetWAD -> Wad Search Settings and then add the repository sites there.

If you're using Doom Explorer, click Options and then go to "Wad Download", you'll similarly be able to add additional repository sites there.

As far as I know, version 2.06 of Doom Explorer can now fetch WAD checksums, so you can rest assured that its WAD downloader can determine which repository matches exact WADs.
