Ar_e_en Posted August 18, 2021 Besides death which is an obvious fear for any living creature to have, I have a fear of thunder and lightning (Astraphobia). It has lessened over the years, but whenever there is a thunder storm (even if I know that I'm safe inside a building) I will usually stare at the window with a thousand yard stare if I hear or see a lightning strike from a distance. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm sorry about your fear of lightning and thunder. That has to really suck. Thunderstorms are one of the most beautiful spectacles that nature has to offer. I've always been fascinated by thunderstorms, and it probably stems from my Dad's fascination with them. I remember being a young kid, 6 or 7, and he'd get me and my brother in his truck and we would chase a thunderstorm. It might not've been the most prudent idea a parent could have, but watching the cloud to cloud lightning arc across twenty miles was amazing. I've kept up that habit, whenever there's a thunderstorm I put on a jacket and go for a walk. If it hits me, it hits me; either it kills me, or I have a really cool story. I've gone for walks in thunderstorms where it sounds like the world is going to end. And it was amazingly beautiful. But I'm not that tall compared to the trees, and not that conductive, so I'm not terribly worried. Edited August 19, 2021 by Jello 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I've always hated water, even though I was taught how to swim when I was eight. I always remember the time when I was twelve and I decided to swim out to see if I could reach the far shore and I went under. Thankfully there was a large branch in the water that I was able to cling on to, but I still remember water filling my nasal passages, and panicking trying to find something to hold on to. There was also the time when I was ten and got sucked into a whirlpool underneath a train bridge and barely managed to come back up. I also ended up with a bunch of leeches on my feet. Fuck water, I hate it. I'll take my chances with lightning. Edited August 19, 2021 by Jello 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

And I agree I'll take my chances with lightning ⚡ any day, sorry to hear you ended up with a bunch of leeches that is the worse .... I one time stupidly entered a lake in Quebec and came out with my legs covered it wasn't fun... Now I'm always paranoid any time I go by a lake .... I ALWAYS GOTTA CHECK FOR LEECHES.. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'd like to say I'm glad I'm not the only one, but I'm not glad you had to go through that; but I do feel your pain. Leeches literally suck, and I'm sorry you had to deal with it. I kept trying to enjoy swimming after those experiences, but I just couldn't. There's too many things you can't see, and too many things could go wrong. I'll just stick to dry land. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Coopersville Posted August 19, 2021 (edited) All that ultimately matters to me in life is the preservation of my art, and the safety of my niece and nephew. So losing those things would be in my top fears. Before my death, I plan to seal all of my art (crappy childhood doodles, my DeviantArt junk, paintings, everything) into a time capsule and bury it inside a mountain so that it'll hopefully survive climate change and future beings can use it to study the early 21st century. I also mark many of my projects with a thumbprint for study and the slight hope I can be revived or at least identified based on my DNA and skin structure. Chopkinsca Posted August 20, 2021 Oh, oh, how could I forget. I am deeply afraid of reality. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted August 20, 2021 I fear being alone and unknown. Life's terrible, by the way. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
leodoom85 Posted August 21, 2021 My greatest fear is to get older. And I've been thinking a lot recently about what happens after I'm dead....which, in itself, is worse than death itself. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Nothing better than rain on the roof and a warm bed. Thunder, even better. I love rain and thunder effects in games like Skyrim and Fallout. I remember when I found Taffington Boathouse in Fallout 4 for the first time. It was night and I had loaded a weather mod that improved the storms. I stood there for a long time, watching out the ruined windows as the rain came down, the thunder roared and the lightning flashed. Surrounded by the darkness and ruined buildings it was just a marvelous moment of atmosphere. Thank God they finally made it so the rain doesn't clip through buildings anymore. I was so happy when they bought that into Skyrim with the special edition. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The house I spent the better part of my childhood in was a large, two-story building with enormous windows overlooking the valley beneath the property. I used to watch the storms roll in from the south, relish in the feeling of anticipation as the air pressure climbed. Each one was good for at least a half-hour lightshow. I'd sit on the faimly couch, gazing in awe as sheets of lighting rolled across the heavens, whilst simultaneously comforting our pea-brained pooch, who feared the thunder. The other cool thing about these storms is that they tended to be preceed by periods of boiling heat, so it was always very satisfying to feel the temperature plumment as the rain fell in buckets. Thread tax: caves. Just, caves. The less said about those stygian deathtraps, the better. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted August 23, 2021 A few come to mind, in no particular order: - Being sexually violated, especially at the hands of a man. - Dying a long and painful death. I don't mind if it's drawn out, as it would be interesting to witness the transition, I just don't want it to be excessively painful. - Outliving my wife, or her outliving me, as opposed to dying together. - Being left physically or mentally handicapped from a severe injury. - Physical problems that go unaddressed, leading later in life to extreme pain and possibly the need for surgery. - Losing my marbles later in life and being unable to function or participate in art. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nefelibeta Posted October 3, 2021 Those footstep sounds that will mysteriously appear whenever it's late and I'm trying to sleep, or the metal sound when you hit a railing. Or even the sound of someone knocking my door, nowadays I don't even dare to close the door when I sleep. Yeah, I guess ghosts are real. (And holy shit, I just heard someone was rummaging my stuff last night. I might get a PTSD for this shit) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
