maxmanium Posted July 31, 2021 (edited) Mostly asking because due to the nature of DEHACKED it's a bit hard to do something original (read: in 2021). I'm curious what people enjoy, as opposed to what they feel is just kinda shoehorned in there just because. Edited July 31, 2021 by maxmanium 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheNoob_Gamer Posted August 1, 2021 (edited) Anything that features Lost Souls killable in a single shotgun blast get my vote. They seem to try mimicking flying Pinkies, but failed in the process, so being weaker makes them less frustrating. Also, the Arachnorb from Valiant. It's a great Alternative to the regular Cacos. Dusty_Rhodes Posted August 1, 2021 @Doomkid Everything in Rowdy Rudy 2. Some much variety and it really makes a challenging but fun and interesting level set. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaileyTW Posted August 1, 2021 I think my favorite is still the Pyro Knight from Valiant. Never got tired of those dudes. Least favorite would be the Dark Mancubus from Rush. Just a double mancubus. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Wavy Posted August 1, 2021 6 hours ago, SilverMiner said: BFG zombies Flashbacks to Plutonia 3 Well to answer the question, I like more interesting fodder monsters along side the classic ones. Having only the Zombieman, Shotgun guy, Chaingunner and Imp can feel pretty repetitive so having a few new unique ones can spice up the mapset. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Teo Slayer Posted August 1, 2021 (edited) All the DeHacked enemies from Valiant and those green monsters from Scythe X Edited August 1, 2021 by Teo Slayer 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nikku4211 Posted August 4, 2021 It's kind of hard to say, because I feel like Batman Doom's done the most with DeHackEd that will ever be done, at least for vanilla Doom. But it'd be nice to have some really weird enemies that are nothing like Doom's. I can't think of any examples, to be honest, or anything actually possible in the Doom engine that doesn't recall certain infamous WADs that should not be named, but yeah. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ICID Posted August 4, 2021 Having a Baron replacement is always appreciated, whether it's a more interesting version of the same monster (Eviternity's Annihilator) or something totally different (Struggle's Antaresians). Society has progressed past the need for pink goat man. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Steveb1000 Posted August 4, 2021 I really enjoyed the fast melee skeletons in Going Down, fantastic. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Omniarch Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) Cybruisers come to mind for me, in addition to the already-mentioned Valiant Pyro Knight and any nerfed Lost Soul variant. I tend to favour enemies with high damange-to-HP ratios, so a monster that can easily one-shot the player whilst itself being easily killable is naturally very appealing to me. I like Valiant's Suicide Bombers for the same reason, in addition to their innate hilarity. Another monster, which I've only seen once in dehacked form, is Nihility's rendition of the D3 Wraith. Personally, I really like the idea of a fast-yet-fragile melee monster, since such a beastie slots neatly into the existing line-up, and the Wraith is the best instance of such I've seen, mainly due to its recognizable design and superb sounds. Well-implemented Imp variants also tend to draw my attention, mainly due to the immense versitality and iconic design of the original. The Psycho Imps from Rowdy Rudy 2 are a prime example, along with the turret imps from Nihility. Imps that shoot Baron projectiles are also interesting to me, due to the dmg-to-HP thing. Evil marines and related monsters (like the Stealth Alien from Ancient Aliens) have great potential as well in my eyes, but are very difficult to balance correctly. I can't think of a 100% successful example off the cuff, though I'm sure such instances do exist. Finally, zombies that shoot projectiles (such as the many Plasma Zombie variants and antares031's iconic commandos) also appeal to me, mostly since I tend to prefer to be able to dodge incoming attacks whenever possible. Those are all the ones that I can think of that haven't already been mentioned. I agree with most of the above comments, especially with ICID on the Baron replacement thing. Chip Posted August 4, 2021 I find it strange that there are only 2 entries on the Doomwiki for Fan-made monsters, one of which being the MBF Dog, and the other being the Bruiser Demon. I feel like some Monsters are notable enough to have their own entries by now, and seeing that DOOM Zero and REKKR were added to the Unity Port, I feel like their custom monsters should have their own Wiki pages since they are official now. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

IMO Hell Knights serve the Baron's purpose better without being overly tanky. 3 hours ago, Steveb1000 said: I really enjoyed the fast melee skeletons in Going Down, fantastic. Also, i totally agree that beyond Batman Doom, REKKR and D4V, i doubt there would be more to see on dehacked. Besides that, they are always welcome. It doesn't matter if dehacked monster become repetitive, think that the important is if they made contextual sense, somehow. The boss on E2M8 of REKKR is a good example. I was totally expecting it to happend, but it was a blast seeing it happend. Edited August 5, 2021 by P41R47 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's got some impressive stuff like radioactive mines, and pinkies coming out of zombies, though it's also got some annoying things like the imp fireballs having BFG tracers, the new BFG having a random chance of making enemies 'immortal'(due to integer overflow), and the chaingun instantly shooting out all of its bullets. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

The first one that came to mind was Running Late, which has a similar cutesy feel to boot. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Deadwing Posted August 5, 2021 I like enemies that offer something new to the table, such as the frozen Cacodemons from eviternity (with their sprinting attack) and the little fast guys from Ancient Aliens. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If there are custom monsters out there that make a habit of appearing in multiple works and you think that they deserve a page, then nothing is stopping you from making the page yourself. :) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sergeant_Mark_IV Posted August 5, 2021 Bosses and semi-bosses. Specially if it's a final boss (like in Going Down) or something that can fill the void between a Cyberdemon and a Baron (like the infamous Afrit in wads such as Scythe 2) 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
