Why I HATE Playing Engineer In TF2....

Recommended Posts

why i hate playing engineer.

-killing one person will immediately make him go loch n load demo or direct hit soldier and focus only you for the rest of the match

literally. there was this demo named "Not A Robot" every time i would kill him he would switch to loch n load and focus for me the rest of the game. not even the shield the wrangler gives help defend against loch n load pussies

-uber rushes

uber rushes completely shut down any fun your having trying to set up your nest

also WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS UBER FUCKING PYROS TO DESTROY NESTS??????

UBER A FUCKING DEMO HEAVY OR SOLDIER YOU DUMBASS MEDIC!

-building nests take so long it hurts

building nests take so long by the time i have everything to level 3 their already ubering a pyro ready to wm1 the nest and cap the cart

-playing engineer puts so much stress on me and i hate it

playing engi puts stress on me because i know some raging demoman is gonna switch to loch n load or go on a rampage uber rushing my sentry

i have no idea why people play engineer

its so fucking frustrating and i dont get it?

whats so fun about being shut down every time you try to have fun?????

all of these are why i hate playing engineer

and before you say some shit like "i dont even play tf2 this is doomworld why you posting this here" im banned from the steam forums for shitposting so this is the only place i got to talk about why i hate playing engineer

Sir this is a doom forum.

But it was posted in "Everything Else". These forums are well moderated, and I think people should be free to post about everything in Everything Else.

If a problem arises, the Mods will take care of it.

As far as playing Engie in TF2, I can't help the OP there. I've never played TF2, but I played TFC quite a bit. Engie was fun, but not exactly exciting. And it was quite a bit of work.

Figuring out the right spots for your turrets, and waiting in the shadows so you could jump out and defend or repair them was fun. And it was always satisfying watching them tear a scout or soldier in half. But it was always a tedious class to play, and the Engies never got respect. They never captured the flag; because they were busy defending your flag.

For my Engies skill that i had in 2017-2019.

1-If you know a person will change tactics to killing you nest, while they respawn, change you turret position, if you got around 3 good places to put your sentry, will catch the soldier/demo out of position if they expect the turret on the same place.

2-Medic Uber rush. If you are in a long position (trink dustbowl last point) then you best option should be block the path (with dispenser) and wragler if you have it, also here comes handy a pybro, but that if you team have it.

If you're in a short range map, where you sentry is just meters away where the medic activate the uber, you best strat would be teleport the sentry with the teleport shotgun and just put close to you spawn, and maybe put yourself bettew rockets, engie can survive one rocket (not crit).

3-Engie works if you teams protects you, if not, it's a stressful position, where you should go instead play passive because you don't want to the enemie team go full focus on you.

You should play TF2 sometime. I know everybody says that but they say it for good reason, it's a fun game and I think Engineer in that game is fun (as battle Engie at least).

I might try it, but it seems like every time I've heard about it for years, it's people complaining about bots and cheaters. It doesn't seem like an ideal time to start playing it. Although the same could be said about most online games.

I'm fine with single player, unless I'm in the same room with friends. Then MP is a blast.

Oh yeah that's certainly true. Even without that the game's buggy and you need to tinker around and do alot of DIY optimization to get it ideal.

But in my opinion, doing that and joining a community created server is more then worth the trouble.

All up to you, though.

{Note: most of what I'm about to say only applies to 'team' play - if you're just interested in doing your own thing, I'd recommend switching to gunslinger or dropping engie altogether}

You really need the right type of mindset to play engie - for one, your buildings are supposed to be destroyed. The sentry is supposed to drag enemies away from the objective to deal with it. If you get attached to your buildings (understandable, since they take time and metal to make), you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Accepting this was rough, but it made engie fun to play.

For example, I view it as a positive when the enemy needs to spend their uber to take you down - ubers are INSANELY powerful when used effectively, and you've thrown that idea completely out the window when they can't spend a second of it actually killing or otherwise advancing the objective.

Having a more dynamic playstyle doesn't hurt either. If your buildings are well-positioned and spread out, it's that much harder for someone to switch to demo and topple your pillow fort.

He's definitely a frantic class to play, and there are certain people he will never appeal to.

The more you play, the more you'll pick up on the subtleties of gamestate awareness and other lame sounding malarkey. If that doesn't appeal to you, most other classes are fun to play just paying attention to the world in front of them.

...granted, I've spent the past few months learning doom, and haven't felt the sweet embrace of a y-axis since starting, so I may not be trustworthy - but from experience, getting attached to your buildings is the number one roadblock for new engies.

If you are always trying to upgrade to tier 3 then you aren't helping your team defend and giving enemy time to prepare to kill you. Which as you pointed out is what is going on.

Learn to use tier 1\2 turrets to get kills and change weapons from what I assume is a revengineer build and he is much more fun and useful to the team. Your sentry shouldn't be the one racking the kills, it is you or teammates defending it.

Actually, if you're playing in causal mode or some sort of pub server. Don't play engineer because there will be rarely any "team members" that will cooperate with you. Just don't do it.
