Apprentice Posted August 27, 2021 Try reading the disc in another drive, if you can find someone who still has a floppy drive. Otherwise, see https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/historic/ for the shareware versions available (0.99, 1.1, 1.2 and later). Judging by the filename and the date, I say you have the 1.2 shareware version on floppy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The groves in the disk can start to deform over time (much like glass does), though printed CDs (as opposed to recordable or rewritable CDs) can hypothetically last a very, very long time in the right conditions. I'm yet to have a single CD go bad in my library. Yes, they tend to last quite a bit longer than magnetized discs, because magnets tend to decay. I still have my original Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 discs from '94 and '95, and they seem to have all the original data. And Kyrandia and Myst from '93. I've got a bunch of old 3.5 floppies, including the Doom shareware, but I haven't had a floppy drive for 15 years or more, so I have no idea if they still work 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
