problem when making stairs in eureka

im trying to make stairs on both sides of a room in eureka i was able to make it just fine on the right side but i cant make on the left

here is on the right i was able to make the stairs just fine

here is on the left

when i try to make the stairs this is what happens

 

why cant i make stairs there?

I have noticed that sometimes, when drawing a line, the vertex on one end doesn't split the linedef it's on. As a result, the line is drawn, but neither side is defined. It seems to happen when I'm drawing lines quickly.  I'm not sure why this happens, but I suspect that is what happened here.

 

@printz Any thoughts?

I don't use Eureka, so I won't be of much help.

I only use it from time to time for error checking.

 

If you have difficulties drawing linedefs, can't you copy/paste

the stair sectors from the right side to the left?

Try to use the check tools('Check' -> 'ALL'), maybe you have some vertices overlapped. If is not the vertices, at least the tool will show a message about any problem in your map.

Sorry, I was busy yesterday. I will log this question on GitHub just in case for when I have time, since it's clearly a usability problem if you're confronting this.

 

Generally, however, when drawing, make sure that the linedef you're going to split is visibly highlighted. If you're doing it too quickly, the linedef may not be detected and you'll perform no splitting.

 

EDIT: checking again, I see that you are splitting indeed, but for some reason the new lines are still invalid.

no worries well about the speed i actually have tried to do this many times and in different speeds to when i do manage to create the sectors something else on that room breaks

Maybe you can check if the lines are referencing (I guess this the term) to the correct sector. I had problems like this, and when I checked, the numbers were different. Check this:

The overlapping lines in the right staircase are indeed the problem. Deleting the overlapping linedefs and then redrawing the necessary lines will solve your problem. Those mismatched sector errors (caused by the overlapping lines) are wreaking havoc and once you fix them, you'll be able to draw the other set of stairs just fine.

Don't worry about making mistakes with your first map. You're learning. Good luck with the rest of the map!
