Moustachio Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Great issue all around! Really love the Newstuff Awards at the end, I think this is a perfect fit into the hole the old Newstuff Reviews left in our hearts (RIP). Edited August 5, 2021 by Moustachio 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

KeaganDunn Posted August 5, 2021 I should get involved with the writing process of this - I've been an aspiring writer since a very young age. Great job again, everyone! I'm especially loving the new newstuff section. Spoiler lmao There was hardly any information on my Detrimental mapset. Reasonable, though - expect a nerfed lower difficulties version soon. And I probably won't make that kind of bullshittery again (or at least have it as a primary focus). 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

It was a bit too challenging for my tastes (though, I like platforming, so was able to tolerate the first level) and I was quite running out of things to write about. Spoiler Pretty sure my other newstuff co-host won't like it as much though... And thanks for giving newstuff a shot! I appreciate that more people are having interests in the little section :) Edited August 5, 2021 by TheNoob_Gamer 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted August 5, 2021 Sorry i didn't make the cut the last few months. Moving to a new rig that actually can run GZDoom and can do work on. Will get back in the game. A wonderful issue, once again. What exclamations haven't been said already? !!! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doom_Dude Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Awesome issue and it's hard to believe it's been a whole year already. I'm drinking a coffee after getting home and reading the Quake article.... enjoyable reading and I have a lot more to read for sure. I have a lot of good memories of Quake and it's mission packs, and like Doom, it's shovelware discs and even messing with various editors. Good stuff! Thanks Wadazine crew, it''s been a good year and here's to another year of fine articles, wads and everything Doom. :D Plus I somehow got 3 screens in the gallery, so that's nice too. :D Edited August 5, 2021 by Doom_Dude 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheGreenZap Posted August 5, 2021 This issue looks soooooo good! It's crazy how it has that great game magazine vibe to it that you would find in the 90s. Love it! Great job all! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted August 5, 2021 It's nice seeing Quake's birthday covered! Given my well-known love for Doom 64 and its atmosphere, I am also very fond of the atmosphere of the original Quake. When I started making dark ambient music, the Quake community was first to welcome me and they really embraced my unusual sounds. Many do not know that my inspiration who made the Doom 64 soundtrack, @Aubrey Hodges, also made the Quake 64 soundtrack. So my music, and the way I compose it, ends up straddling the line between both games. JCR (who appears in the article) was the first person ever to use one of my tracks! (have a great time at 3D Realms buddy!) Then dumptruck_ds, who was kind enough to invite me on the Quakecast, did a lot of work to share my music around. The class and the way dumptruck_ds manages the Quake Mapping Discord was a template I used to set up my Doom 64 Discord. His promotion eventually led to me being involved with both of the Finnish Quake Mapping Jams (SMEJ1 & SMEJ2) and eventually the alternate Quake music pack put together by Greenwood. I earnestly thank the Quake community for welcoming me into their fold! It's really another family over there. Glad to see the Xmas Jam 2020 on there too! I had previously composed an Xmas themed track for an earlier project but somehow it didn't get used. It bummed me out a bit seeing it sit there doing nothing, and I considered dumping it on soundcloud just to get it out there. Then Comrade Beep approached me about a track and I shared it with him. I wasn't sure if it was going to be used this time or not. By the time December came my mother passed away and I wasn't in a great mood. Then the Xmas Jam 2020 was released. I booted it up and I was so delighted to hear my music playing at the hub reveal! On top of that the maps were fantastic and really inspired me. I think the SMEJ2 mappers could say I wasn't very productive in December on the music side. But after that Xmas Jam, I really got energized and started producing a lot more. It is fantastic how these games and modding for them can bring you back from a dark place. As always anyone can always ask me about Doom 64 and getting started with it, but you can do the same with Quake! The article in this issue did a fantastic job in describing how to get started and good packs to play in Quake. But if you somehow manage to burn through those and want more, or want a fun port to play with, don't hesitate to ask! There's so much Quake stuff out there that no one person can play it all. :D 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Chip Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) I'm about a third of the way through right now. The Twitter Sound Off section was cute. I imagine you don't remember it, since I posted it sooo long ago on the Discord page, but I made a DOOM Twitter Bird. If you plan on doing a section like this again, you could of course use it if you'd like (probably after a bit of touch-up). Great read! Awesome job team! Especially Endless! out_of_service Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) It's hard to believe that Quake came out twenty-five years ago. I remember my first encounter with the shambler and how it scared the bejeesus out of me. It's huge frame, the strange off-white color of it's body, it's bloody claws and feet, it's mishapen head that lack eyes. And those teeth. So many teeth. Just like Doom, I was able to experience the game right when it came out. It was like Doom, but bigger and bolder and more in your face. This was a great read! A big thanks to everyone involved. I wasn't one of the lucky ones that got to enjoy the release of Quake, but one of my earliest experiences with the game was actually with the music and the artwork. I remember looking at the cool logo and hearing the music and just imagine how brutal this game was. Granted, it was for the 90s. Iconic piece of work forever. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah, that was a large part of the reason why I joined the Wadazine team because absolutely no one had taken up the torch in any substantial way. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

LUISDooM Posted August 7, 2021 Great issue! I loved the Quake article, it was a really good read, it made me want to fire up some good ol' Quake right now. The rest of the magazine is pretty good too, it really shows the labor of love you all put to make this possible. Congratulations to everyone involved in this great release! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
