Howdy members of Doomworld! Chip Here!

Last year, you may remember a Poetry Contest posted on these forums made by yours truly. There were over 20 submissions for that contest, with many great poems to choose from, it was a difficult decision to be made. In the end, D_BETWEE by BoxY won the contest and was featured in that month's Doom Master Wadazine. Now, I am back to judge your new poems. The prize this year is the same, but the contest is harder.

These are the updated and expanded rules for this year's competition

  • Poetry must be shown to everybody! Don't send me the poem in your Private messages. Don't Be Shy
  • No longer than 30 lines per poem. It is okay if you go over that number a bit, but don't post a 50 line poem. sometimes, you might be able to make 2 or 3 lines 1 line, if that helps.
  • The poem MUST be written by the poster.
  • Any forms of poetry besides Epics, Acrostic, or Concrete poetry
  • Must relate to Doom in one way or another.
  • Title your poems
  • After the poem is entered, there is no going back to edit it.
  • Do not enter a poem that has already been published
  • Submit your poems by October 1st, 2021
  • The poem must include at least 2 of the poetic devices listed
  1. Alliteration - The repetition of a letter or sound at the beginning of multiple words in a single line. E.G: "Once Upon a Midnight Dreary, While I pondered, weak and weary" (The Raven, Poe) Hear the repetition of the Wh- sound at the beginning of the words? that is alliteration
  2. Metaphor - When the author compares one thing to another WITHOUT using Like or As. E.G: They were a vicious tiger, stalking its prey.
  3. Simile - When the author compares to things, USING Like or As. E.G: She was as tall as a giraffe.
  4. Hyperbole - A very strong exaggeration. E.G: My backpack weighed 10 tons
  5. Personification - The humanization of non-human objects. E.G: The Walls spoke of gloom
  6. Repetition - the use of the same word over and over again. E.G: I fell, I fell, I fell, and I fell
  7. Rhyme - I imagine you know what a rhyme is

Get writing, people!

Yeah, seems like my TNT: Evilution Epic was a bit too long last time haha

3 lines for the introduction and 3 more for every map, that makes 99 lines with an slighty inner rhyme, and one last line that closes the poem for a total of 100 lines.

I was aiming to use terza rima, but i decided for a more free styled.

I couldn't help it, i love TNT: Evilution :P

The new rules are cool, probably i will give this a shot this year, too. ;)

I STILL HAVEN’T BEATEN SUNLUST

I play for hours, never bored

Putting shells in the demonic horde.

I run out of ammo, I have to switch

Thankfully I have like 19 boomsticks

I play for hours, never bored

I just saw that imp get gored

Infighting is always fun

Never have to raise my gun.

I play for hours, never bored

An inescapable damaging floor

Desperately, I curse the mapper’s name.

Because I forgot to fucking quicksave.

Purple Stars

Smoke rises from the dust of a once familiar place.
As I crawl, a wounded animal, at an ever slower pace.
I smell the ashes of my comrades, bittersweet, while I see flashes of
children splashing at eachother joyously in the lake, their sounds echoing throughout the street.

A red one-eyed menace hovers above the smoke, its mouth full of freshly consumed victims.
The cheerful sound of the children I heard before now suddenly turns into menacing screams of tortured vixens.

With the last bits of strength I unload my holster, with shaking hands pointing towards the horned menace as I bolster.
Several loud noises follow as tiny earthquakes, shaking the street and waking whatever unholy product roamed around from the recent outbreaks.

Blue droplets fall on my face, while the horned beast in the sky takes sudden note.
It turns itself around and points its piercing gaze restlessly over the street, searching the cause of its disturbance
while revealing the contents of its throat.
The helmet shows 12% left, with multiple poisonous wounds, bites and lacerations.
"Imminent treatment and medication needed", while the endless numbers and words of data stream down without altercations.

I feel the weight of a heavy stone lift off my head, as I witness the cracked helmet fall off, blood red.
Two unknown hands then suddenly cover my face, enveloping me with their softness and sweet scent.
"Who are you..?" I asked, although I wasn't sure whether it were words or growls that where sent.

"Ssshhhh...I'm here to show you something beautiful, marine." As it lifted its hands off my face, I witnessed
a glowing purple star forming in the sky, smelling like kerosene.

"The demon requires a child's life to be sacrificed in order to immortalize the One" continued the whispering voice.
"What!?..what are you talking about, why are you doing this?" hopelessly insinuating there to be a choice,

while my own life was about to drown in this hell's noise.

I felt soft lips touch on the hard, dry martian-like surface of my forehead, while I felt hair moving and tickling on my face like soft silk.
I've long lost the sense of time and place, so I do not know how long it was that I felt such intimacy, as if all this time I was living among the dead.

The star descended down on us, multiple stars one after another.
A purple flame engulfed the area with a great rush, followed by multiple explosions like no other.
A floating horde gathered and circled above the area of impact, as hungry and restless ravens looking for its prey.

Yet after the dust settled, no trace was left of what was in their sights before, so the bloated demonic ravens left the area dissatisfied.
