Zilch Posted August 7, 2021 I only started playing Doom fairly recently. I'm 19 now, and started playing it early 2020 (lockdown was not fun). I actively use - and support - LZDoom (3.88), rather tham GZDoom. Reason being is that is is MUCH more stable on my iGPU than the latter. I started a whole thread on the issue. Anyway, I have already gone through Brutal Doom, which is absolutely AWESOME!!! Brutal Doom combined with the amazing level design of Plutonia (my favorite WAD) rivals that of even some modern games. But now that I have finished regular Doom and Brutal Doom, I find myself with an itch. I want more! But the problem is that there are soooooo many WADs to choose from. For someone like me who's only been playing for over a year, it really is hard to choose. What are some of the best, most original, and most enjoyable WADs you can recommend to the 'average' Doom player? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dexiaz Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) Legacy of Suffering, KDiZD, Ultimate Torment and Torture, The City Of The Damned 1 & 2, Wolfenstein: Blade of Agony. This is a very little list, but you could try it. Also you could check this, maybe you'll find it interesting to play too. Wavy Posted August 7, 2021 Not sure about what the best would be but I started with Back to Saturn X Episode 1 and it's a very high quality Megawad. There's also a second episode if you beat that. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Teo Slayer Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) I don't know if it's the best but after that, I started with Lunatic from skillsaw (the same guy who created Valiant) and it was awesome. I really liked the moon themed maps and the tech bases were just epic. MAP05 will be pain tho, but still good If you enjoyed Brutal Doom so much as I do, you may check out the Starter Pack that SgtMarkIV made. It's an amazing Megawad and it's personally my favourite of all time now Edited August 7, 2021 by Teo Slayer 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zilch Posted August 7, 2021 @Dexiaz just downloaded and configured LOS. Looks incredible! Reminds me a lot of Doom 3. I did try BTSX, but found it quite boring. The first level is only one texture of blue and white squares. Very annoying, visually. I'll also try some of the other ones recommended later. Thanks for the input, guys! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Heh that's fine. The gameplay is certainly something that not everyone may like. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Blue and white squares are "missing texture" error, are you sure you are loading it correctly? I had the same issue, but forgot what solved it. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

You'll need to load both wads for it to work properly. Edited August 7, 2021 by TheNoob_Gamer 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zilch Posted August 7, 2021 Nevermind, just fixed it. I forgot I load both WAD files in LZDoom. A quick edit of a batch file with Notepad++ (God bless)... @echo off start lzdoom.exe -file btsx_e1a.wad btsx_e1b.wad -config btsx-doom.ini The textures load perfectly fine now, thankfully. I couldn't understand why on earth someone would make something like that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Pechudin Posted August 7, 2021 It still blows my mind BTSX is vanilla. But, on-topic ... for mods Pirate DooM is a nice, light-hearted one (well, a TC). REKKR is also a fun one, albeit a lot slower and more vanilla. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bauul Posted August 7, 2021 If you're cool with reading through old threads, there's been a few recently that have tackled this topic. Here's a small selection: These should give you a good few ideas. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
