Animated flag blowing in wind?

Anyway or method to simulate this flag texture (taken from OTEX texture pack) to move and blow in the wind? Right now I have it in my map with the sound of wind blowing but it looks odd not moving. Would look nice to have a moving effect to make it more immersive.

The vanilla method was to use an animated texture, and having flag / empty graphics alternate to simulate movement using multiple linedefs.

Warping is used for surfaces, texture, flat or sprite, like a water surface to make it swirl. This is used a lot in Waterlab with the texture njwater.

 

For an example of a flag wafting in the breeze take a look at ORDER OF THE ODONATA right at the start area and in the upper area portal of the great hall. If you start the map from the upper portal then you can see the flags unfurl and then moving in the 'breeze'.

I tried the ZDoom/Eternity WARP2 effect on the flag, and it ended up looking like this:

I guess it's decent, but it might be a little too wobbly.

it looks more like it was made of some jello… but i guess that it's the best one can get without reverting to custom animations or 3d models.

That warp2 effect on the flag looks great IMO. I'll use that and also look into what Doom mapping enthusiast suggested in Order of the Odonata.

You guys have all been a big help to me.

You are not wrong... maybe it'll look more natural if the banners are simply replaced with jello:
