princetontiger Posted August 21, 2021 How does Bethesda select these maps? I searched, but couldn't find an answer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Chip Posted August 21, 2021 I don't think you searched enough. I recommend heading over to the Console Doom forum. not only is there the Unity Port that Gez linked for you, but there are several other topics there. If you have a suggestion for the Unity Port, Check out The Doom Unity Wad suggestion Thread. Sponge, who adds the add-ons to the port follows that thread, and might have used some suggestions from there, so it's certainly worth it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted August 21, 2021 (edited) Note that I didn't link just to the thread, but to three specific posts where sponge explains precisely the hows and whys of his selections. Edited August 21, 2021 by Gez 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted August 21, 2021 Thx... so it's still a mysterious and dark art. Cool. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

They use curated .wads that can be played in others platforms well, it's possible for the game to run, and not inflict with copyright or models from other games. They are also free to download, they just make more accessibility to more people to play more Doom without requiring others ways. Also, they are wide acceptance in the community. If you want to bring you drama about corporation stuff, i recommend you looking for another thread. Edited August 21, 2021 by D4NUK1 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kinsie Posted August 21, 2021 There's basically an archive of curated mods for free download within the Unity Doom port, allowing console players to enjoy our unique perspective on fair Chaingunner placement where they otherwise would be unable to. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

They even do Total Conversions REKKR being the example. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It is curated free content. The reason for that is that they will look for current authors to select their work for the port (Roughly around 2011 or so), also since the older mapsets have authors that are inactive or deceased. 51 minutes ago, CBM said: bethesda never changes It was just told that its curated free content. Why maintain the argument that Bethesda wants to earn money selling other people's mods when that is objectively untrue? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted August 21, 2021 I'm playing thru them... I actually did not know about syringe or earthless. Both are excellent. I think it's smart that bethesda does this... especially for new users. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted August 21, 2021 yeah despite not playing the unity port much I like that console users can access doom megawads, even if that access is smaller and more curated than on pc source ports. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

princetontiger Posted August 21, 2021 (edited) 30 years later, the community maps keep me playing Doom. I have a super mario bros 2 bender nes every 3-4 years because that game is fantastic. I can't name a game from the 80s/90s/00s that I still play... but doom? heck yes. Edited August 21, 2021 by princetontiger 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Why maintain the argument that Bethesda wants to earn money selling other people's mods when that is objectively untrue? well, bethesda have done this in the past with fallout and eldar scroll mods, so I figured they were back to their old tricks... I am just glad I was wrong 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sponge would know, but i guess that's under NDA. And maybe just credit is enough too. Often they get accompanied by Slayer Club interviews - Jimmy even had two of those. So who knows. Personally i think its beyond cool that a major studio recognizes its past works this way. It also makes inclusion for the Unity port more of a seal of approval/award that says: ''The people at id consider this epic enough to include.'' 19 hours ago, CBM said: well, bethesda have done this in the past with fallout and eldar scroll mods, so I figured they were back to their old tricks... The last couple of doom games are really nice, no doubt about that. But no doom game will ever match Doom 2 in replayability. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

As limited as the wad selection still is, it lets me play doom on the go. I also use it as a tool to try to coax friends and family into playing doom, so I have people IRL to talk about it with. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
