If we were to assume that effort involved is no problem whatsoever, then you could extend "codeword" to entire sentences, if that's what it takes, so the reliability of the codeword itself is not the issue as far as I'm concerned...

the better we streamlined the options the less work the people in charge of doing the investigation will have.

Useful for now, i think.
It may have some flaws, but still useful.
I suppose if this method is use after all, there will be a thoughtful planning of the sentences.
There is still a risk of the sentence being too normal, but well, its better than nothing.

Hope it works as it seems feasible.

When you are personally done with a thread, you do not have to keep reading it. Nobody is forcing you to keep scrolling when more replies come in. Not sure what the problem is here. Locking a thread while peeps still have unanswered questions means I can get to play whack-a-mole with new threads about this subject popping up, and/or watch misunderstanding and confusion reign.

Not that I expect the discussion in this thread to remain relevant very long after this point.

When you unlock a thread to allow people to ask additional questions you should make clear that is the reason, and should make certain that it is the only reason people will bother posting.

I wonder how effective this rule would really be, considering that people often use different aliases on different sites.

That's just something nobody can do anything about, unless they're a moderator here as well as some other site...

As for stewboy's argument that faking somebody else would be too much effort... making a shitpost every other day on twitter while talking about doom here and there is very little effort compared to how long some people have been holding grudges already... It's probably not going to happen often, but as long as it's a possibility that seems to fly under the radar I'd rather bring it up now...

i think there is a lot of skepticism over this new rule because of the recent bannings and nuked threads.Especially the deletion of the first endless post made damaged their reputation even more.It opens the posibility that the mods can abuse that rule so they could deflect any form of criticism in the nearby future.Im not saying that all the mods/admins are like this, but for a user who doesnt know them well or who is still new to doomworld, this is probably the perspective they will form

All else aside, I think that was a spectacularly bad judgement call... Imagine being told that moderation feels over zealous, and the next course of action is to nuke the thread instead of locking it temporarily with an added comment that the mod-team wants to take some time to go over the points that have been brought up before it gets reopened for public discourse... If they had done at least that, they could've still gotten their chips in prior to a shitstorm, and all that without confirming what the very post they nuked brought up as one of the main talking points...

For the record, Endless requested that the status be hidden. Here's a screencap for proof:

edit: I assume this is public information, but if not please tell me so I can request a post deletion.

You confuse his status update with the forum thread endless opened prior... those two are vastly different instances of something getting locked and hidden... and it was only the status update that he wanted to have closed, because it ended up being a dumpster fire...

Ah, nvm. I assumed from "post" that you and Boomdav meant "status post".

One of the most valuable life lessons I've learned is:
Don't criticize people, criticize their actions

Why? Because their actions can affect you. They have control over their actions. Their actions are not a crucial part of what makes them tick.

This not only prevents you from insulting people (unintentionally), it gives them a chance to correct or explain their actions, and actually promotes discussion rather than make someone shut down in defense mode, because that's what happens when you attack someone personally.

Are we done yet?  Seems so. Also my patience is wearing thin. So, closing thread. Peeps with questions can PM me, if so inclined.
