I thought of the Lost Souls as bats and the Pain Elemental as their mother.

I've never like the Demon being called "Demon" since, well, you're fighting demons. So I've always called him Pinky or Pink Guy.

 

Rest of the bestiary I've referred to as-is.

When I was a child playing Doom years before I should have, me and my brother used to call Hell Knights and Barons of Hell "snotty monster" because they threw green blobs at you.

 

Demons were obviously "piggys"

 

Aaand Arachnotrons were called Archanators because we couldn't read properly.

And I gotta mention the first Doom novel, mainly because it's crap.  The main characters named the various monsters as they encountered them, which in the context of the story is fair enough, but some of the names are idiotic - barons are referred to as hell-princes, cacos are pumpkins (wtf) and cyberdemons are 'steam-demons', because in the book they are steam-powered.  Like, yeah.

I still wanna get the other Doom novels one day and cringe my way through them

Pinky is the common one, everyone calls the Demon that.

 

I like to call the shotgun guys Baldies. Rarely Shotcunts, if I get beset by a particularly nasty trap.

 

Pain Elemental gets to be called Meatball.

 

Mancubus is pluralized to Mancubodes

 

Otherwise it tends to be shortenings, Arachno, Caco, Archie, Cyber, Spidermind, etc.

 

Also, I think the old Doom novels aren't that bad, even if they are weird and has lots of issues.

Uuuh, sort of, but not really, though there's actually an idea behind as to why that is, and part of why the plot spirals the fuck out of goddamn control as the books progress. It wasn't exactly what I wanted when I first read them, but I appreciate that the authors weren't just bullshitting, and that they were actually going somewhere with it.

 

Compare to the movie, where it's just mutants off the bat, and the reasoning why is that studio executives don't have any balls, rather than some kind of creative decision.

I've always referred to Cacodemons as a 'Pumpkin' and I'm not really sure why.

Sergeant = Baldman

Chaingunner = Gatling gun grandpa

Imp = Monkey

Lost Soul = Skull

Demon = Pig

Spectre = Invisible pig

Cacodemon = Raspberry

Revenant = Kicker

Pain Elemental = Creator of skulls

Hell Knight/Baron of Hell = Goatman

Arachnotron = Spider

Mancubus = Golem

Archvile = Fire mummy

Spiderdemon = Super spider

Cyberdemon = Super goatman

 

(this is just rough translation of the nicknames to english)
