List of source ports

EDIT: IGNORE THIS POST. MOVE ON

I made this because I didn't know the wiki showed the ports and wanted to make my own. Hell yeah, shame on me

List of source ports (most popular ones)

I didn't see any topic that speaks about this, so I decided to make one by my own.

GZDoom: Most popular port yet, derived of ZDoom, improves the engine with freelook, jumping, and rendering with the OpenGL engine. Also supports the most mods and wads.

LZDoom: GZDoom but for computers that are old regarding hardware.

Chocolate Doom: This source port allows you to configure easily Dos Doom on your Windows and Mac computer.

Crispy Doom: This is a source port based off Chocolate Doom but it has better graphics. It has freelook as an option.

PrBoom (plus): It's kinda like Crispy Doom, but it has a few improvements.

Zandronum: It's a port based off Skulltag and ZDoom. Uses the GZDoom renderer.

ZDaemon: It's ZDoom but for multiplayer.

Odamex: Odamex is a source port based off csDoom (based of ZDoom)

Doom Retro: Doom Retro is a Doom port with a few interesting features (has a pause screen, screen shakes when explosion, etc) It's based of Chocolate Doom but has better graphics.

Eternity Engine: The Eternity Engine was made for a mod: "Eternity TC". It was gonna be based of Boom but instead is based of MBF now. It also contains freelook

DSDA-Doom: If you are a speedrunner, this is the perfect port. It's PrBoom-plus with a few improvements for speedrunning.

A few ones that are lesser known but pretty interesting:

PsyDoom: A port that reverse engineers PS1 Doom!

Pooch: It's MBF for Windows but it has no improvements, just good old MBF.

Woof: Fork of WinMBF to make it more convenient to use for modern computers. It's also less strict than the original.

If there's something wrong, please tell me!

QZDOOM: Based on old GZDOOM that has true colour rendering software. (not recommended, LZDOOM now have all of this)

I would prefer to stick to the wiki.  It has the most correct information about them.

Woof and Pooch are incorrect too for example..

"improvement" is relative here... but Crispy Doom and Eternity also have freelook and jumping settings.

No offense but a lot of your descriptions really don't explain well what each port really does. For instance GZDoom comes with an intensive scripting language and supports many features no other port does, such as slopes and dynamic lighting. It comes with so many features and changes to the engine that even with a configuration set to mimic Doom's original behavior as best as possible, it will not be a 100% faithful recreation of Doom and is therefore not considered a purist Doom experience.

I'd hardly call freelook and jumping a GZDoom-only commodity, these are features found in almost every source port as extras.

Seems like this thread isn't sitting too well with people, rip

... which I find too bad because I find the information on the wiki page not that well readable. Most ports are either no longer in development (no date has been specified for the latest release) and I can't read on which source those ports are based on. Is it based on the original source code released by id Software? Is it based on (an older version of) ZDoom. Is it based on Boom or something else completely ?? There are so many versions and variations these days, I didn't keep up with it so I do say that the wiki should be altered to display which ports still have active development and what they are based on (original source code, ZDoom, Boom, whatever) . . .

The Doom wiki does actually clearly state whether a source port is still be actively worked on or not and you can find out what a source port is based on quite easily. If you go to a page of any source port on the Doom wiki, it usually shows where the code for that source is derived from. It also usually states it in the first or so paragraph about the source port.

So does Doom Legacy, Doom Legacy had all that stuff first even (and 3D floors, first), but doesn't even make the list. Maybe I'll try re-writing the OP

So what's the point of this thread's existence exactly? This just seems like reposting information that you can find very easily on the wiki.

A post for people that don't know about the wiki or just want a straightforward explanation

Meaning not everything is here

Gonna lock this thread before it turns into too much of a dogpile, methinks. @RetroAkaMe, I think your intentions were at least noble, so hopefully you don't feel too dejected about starting this thread: I daresay a fair few of us have been in your shoes before when it comes to these sorts of things.
