TubularB1Us Posted September 23, 2021 Hi all, quick question. What are some good programs that can write/compose MIDI tracks? I'm currently making a short mappack that has custom music, but the current soundtrack doesn't quite fit the vanilla-style gameplay I'm going for. I did find a program called MidiEditor, but don't quite know if it's as good as people say it is. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
stewboy Posted September 23, 2021 Give Sekaiju a try. It tends to be the most recommended free midi software, though I've not used it very much myself. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Absolute Lambda Posted September 25, 2021 Midiedtior does just fine, or hell I can do some music if you want me to, I primarily use FL Studio so that's a thing 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Afterward, I then set the soundfont to MIDI sequencer instead of TuxGuitar sequencer in the settings. Then I just go from there. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
AD_79 Posted September 25, 2021 Seconding Stewboy's Sekaiju suggestion. If you're writing MIDI, I personally believe it's best to use a program geared specifically towards the format, and Sekaiju's got a solid interface and is pretty comfortable to work with IMO. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bobby :D Posted September 26, 2021 Thirding on Stewboy. Sekaiju has a lot of control given to the composer, every little event is controllable, which is great for extracting the full potential of MIDI. That, and you have direct access to CCs in a little automation box at the bottom of the piano roll screen, which makes life so much easier for auto panning and expression 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RetroAkaMe Posted September 28, 2021 Try out TuxGuitar or BeepBox 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
msx2plus Posted September 28, 2021 Sekaiju, no question. even as somebody that doesn't use Sekaiju (i use OpenMPT and export MIDIs, it's a mess), you've gotta go with Sekaiju. it's a bit complex, but worth learning. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
