Reinhard Posted September 29, 2021 For any ZDOOM users, which of the ZDOOM ports do you prefer and why? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain Ventris Posted September 29, 2021 GZDoom. Fanciest features. I’m easy. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

But really GZDoom, as it now has a GLES version that targets lower end hardware. Then LZDoom, and then ZDoom 2.8.1 since its an outdated but fixed release whose feature set remains the same. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post
forgettable pyromaniac Posted September 29, 2021 When I want to play mods that only run on GZ, I try running it on LZ first for performance reasons. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaileyTW Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) I know little about the ZDooms really. All I know is I got a shitty laptop that's only getting shittier and if it comes into question whether it can run something the answer is no. Got LZDoom just in case there is something I want to play that only it can do, and from what little I do know it's better on performance. So far only used it to get screenshots of the end of chapter text for Valiant. Edited September 29, 2021 by BaileyTW 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted September 29, 2021 GZDoom. Especially since it now (4.7.0 onwards) has the GLES renderer option which is made for low end hardware and gives even better performance than LZDoom 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arrowhead Posted September 29, 2021 GZDOOM for general Doom playing needs. LZDOOM for local splitscreen co-op / deathmatch. and ZDOOM, I don't really use that much anymore... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
thiccyosh Posted September 29, 2021 GZdoom because certain mappers make certain mistakes that this port ignores like infinite height and ML_sector (or reject) lumps missing inside the wad. And because this port is the all-rounder of wads and mods, though I refuse to use it as I'm a semi-purist. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted September 29, 2021 GZDoom because it's the most up-to-date one. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Hawk of The Crystals Posted September 29, 2021 Gzdoom; although I have been getting into PRBOOM more recently. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
CBM Posted September 29, 2021 GZDoom, but for older systems I need to stay vanilla or use a port that is vanilla and performance optimized... 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
doomguykiller69 Posted September 29, 2021 LZ DOOM! WITHOUT DOUBT, WITHOUT EXPLAINING. ONLY LZDOOM! 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
Yumheart Posted September 29, 2021 LZDoom cause purple looks better than blue. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
ducon Posted September 29, 2021 GZDoom if I want OpenGL. ZDoom if I want fat pixels. LZDoom is installed but I just discovered that it was. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BerserkerNoir Posted September 29, 2021 I used LZDOOM before because of older hardware. but now the GLES renderer in the latest releases made change my choice since I can play with max performance with the latest features. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bri0che Posted September 29, 2021 LZDoom because my computer is a f**king toaster 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

spineapple tea Posted September 29, 2021 I mainly use ZDoom because I'm a fucking loser who doesn't want to use GZDoom but is also a bit tired of Prboom+. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Astronomical Posted September 29, 2021 I like zdoom because the other 2 feel like the levels are bigger but that might be an fov thing, if i need to though I use GZDoom 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted September 29, 2021 I am a semi-purist so I only use ZDoom or GZDoom when the mod specifically requires it. Never had cause to use LZDoom. 11 minutes ago, Spineapple tea said: because I'm a fucking loser Uh... what? I really do not fathom how a choice of one particular port due to preference or circumstance makes you a loser. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Yandere_Doomer Posted September 29, 2021 Gzdoom for the majority of things. I only really use zoom or zandronum for highly detailed maps (since I use a potato.) Or if a wad requires it, like lilith.pk3 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SMG_Man Posted September 29, 2021 was originally put off by GZDoom since it had the texture filtering on by default and thought it looked really bad. now that ZDoom's out of development tho I've basically moved over to GZDoom now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Exactly this for me too. I do like Vanilla essence, which is obviously a vanilla emulator for GZDoom. In other news, dafuq is LZDoom? I actually like the texture filtering, I made a few custom sprites and the filter smoothed out the edges. I Don't really Like staring at raw pixels 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted September 29, 2021 I use GZDoom because I'm kinda weird about using no-longer-maintained sourceports (with special exception to Skulltag, long live Skulltag) and because the two computers I use for Dooming seem to be able to handle it okay. Might give LZDoom a try sometime just for shits and to see if the performance on my laptop is any better. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
garu32 Posted September 29, 2021 I use LZDoom in my laptop and GZDoom in other good computers. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
xX_Lol6_Xx Posted September 30, 2021 (edited) I've using LZDoom until like a month ago, because I wanted to try out the GZDoom gles version, both are quite good for shitty computers Edited September 30, 2021 by Lol 6 Wrote the without the e, lmao 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Okej5722 Posted September 30, 2021 I'm more of a crispy doom kind of person. But I decided to bite the bullet and start using GZDOOM as well, not only because of UDMF format, but also since it allows me to make more lazy maps without having to fix map errors within the editor. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
