Wadmodder Shalton Posted October 8, 2021 We all know about the "Doom isn't 3D" and the "keyboard-only" myths for a few years, but there might be more myths and theories that we probably don't about or likely never have a clue to figure out. A myth and theory that I can think of is as follows: Myth: Doom, Doom II & Final Doom can't be beaten without monsters - partially true; only Doom 1 & Plutonia can't be beaten without monsters due to the former having boss levels for each episode and the latter requiring the Mancibus to be killed to proceed to grab the Yellow Skull Key. Only Doom 2 & TNT Evilution can be beaten without monsters to some degree. Theory: E1M8's level layout is partially modeled after or inspired by New York's Liberty Island or Statue of Liberty, or a combination of both. There could be more myths and theories about Classic Doom that I could think of, but for now I can't think of any out of my head. What other myths & theories about Classic Doom do you think could be new additions? Feel free to comment in this thread. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
chungy Posted October 8, 2021 Doom is a retro-style game made to answer "What if we didn't have the full mapping flexibility of the Z axis like our Quake progenitor?" ... I mean, I guess the list could be infinite if we're just making things up :P 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted October 8, 2021 Most long-standing/common myths are debunked by now, just because there’s pretty much no stone left unturned after all these years. When it comes to the base games, anyway. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Smoothandz Posted October 8, 2021 I loved the old myth that Doomguy was in a rocket powered wheelchair, that's why he could move so fast. Lolz, good times. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dexiaz Posted October 8, 2021 (edited) I have a theory about music. Bobby Prince uses a lot the same "riff" in his midis, so they actually sounds like the same, but made with different instruments and sometimes with different tempo. I'd call it the "Real Doom Main Theme". For example - E2M2 ending theme (Square Synth) and Doom 2 intermission theme (Chorus). This "riff" I've also found in different songs from maps of Doom1 and Doom2. I wanted to create a video which will shows this, but I'm too lazy for this. Mystic 256 Posted October 8, 2021 I have no proof of anything but I have feeling that doom 2 was originally gonna have episodes like doom 1 at one point in development Dead Simple feels like a boss map that would be at the end of a episode and there's fragments of possible 5 episodes most of the early maps are techbase then there of course the urban and industrial maps like downtown and industrial zone then there are weirdly medieval maps like inmost dens, courtyard, and citadel sprinkled around the city maps (maybe they just be like national landmarks taken over by demons or demon built structures, i dunno) and then mining complexes and caverns (particularly Chasm and Abandoned Mines) and then there is actual hell maps (like Spirit World) I dunno maybe I've played too many modern wads that just I'm overthinking things 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
