@yourmomdoer3000 Weird, I'm quite sure that something is wrong with the MP3 file you imported, did you do something with the file that caused this?

Try using WAV files. Doom's sound effects are pretty much wavs.

WAV for music is not really a good idea. I know harddisks are now in the terabyte ranges, but still...

MP3 is a terrible format as far as identification and validation are concerned. I'd rather suggest OGG, SLADE has a lot less troubles with them.

Sometimes Slade will display lumps as "unknown" but then GZDoom/Odamex/whatever port you're using will still play it fine anyway. Have you tested to see if it works in-game?

it turns out that the reason is the file is  an avi recorded on bandicam with its file type changed to mp3 and it corrupts the file so slade doesnt detect it

This doesn't corrupt the file, you can name it however you like but it's still an avi, the file extension means absolutely nothing, that only changes how the file explorer presents the file to you.

Slade3 itself also doesn't care about file extensions, however it has no methods to play back an avi nor does it have detection for it as no ports will play back an avi either.

Yeah, that's not gonna fly. Would need to be an actual MP3.

Though as others have said, Ogg (or FLAC, if you don't mind the space increase for minor quality gain) would be a better choice since they both support gapless playback (i.e; they can loop with no pause), something MP3 cannot do.
