intacowetrust Posted October 18, 2021 (edited) Download link (see readme inside for how to launch):https://www.mediafire.com/file/yvlxer3jbrah1bu/CalderaOW.zip/file 'Caldera Of Wretchedness' is a single level demo designed specifically for the 'PsyDoom' source port of PlayStation Doom to PC (version 0.8.3 and later). It showcases some of the new features of PsyDoom versus the original PSX Doom engine such as greatly extended limits, Doom 64 style dual colored lighting, Lua scripting for advanced sector actions, Arch-viles and so on. It also features new music, composed in the engine's original tracker format as well as new textures and flats (courtesy of OTEX). The map is intended to be played with PsyDoom 0.8.3 or later, and would probably be considered very challenging to most. Some of the challenging sections can be optionally skipped however, at the loss of some rewards. Hopefully a future PsyDoom update with save functionality might mitigate some of the frustrations of dying. Just to add also some additional documentation for how to mod for PsyDoom can be found here: https://github.com/BodbDearg/PsyDoom/blob/master/docs/PsyDoom Modding Overview.md The PlayStation engine is a bit of a strange beast as you've noticed and the map format is very different, meaning weird corruption and/or crashes when loading in standard Doom tools which are unaware of it. quakis Posted January 9 (edited) @intacowetrust Only recently discovered PsyDoom and got it up and running. After being hit by a wave of nostalgia, I then gave this level a spin. Very atmospheric piece of work that captures what makes the ambiance of PSX Doom tick for me. The use of colour especially stood out that helped establish a distinct mood during the earlier cavern and dungeon portions. I'd love to see more works like this.
