A Plutonia playthrough with you commenting on the inspirations and level-design would be a dream come true to a lot of us. Thanks, I'm excited to be playing/talking Doom again. I'm going to do that next - play through Plutonia Exp. It's been a long long time so it'll be interesting that's for sure. Hopefully I can remember some cool stuff about how we made it. 22 Quote Share this post Link to post
t.v. Posted November 10, 2021 I really enjoyed watching these videos! I love how the Doom community never forgets about the older projects, not even more than a decade later. Thank you for your critical view and constructive words on my maps (10, 26 and 30. *cough* map11 co-author *cough* :-P ) BTW: You mentioned the 'TWO secret maps'. Actually, there are THREE secret maps. You can only reach the third using the IDCLEV33 code. It would be a shame if you missed this in the 'complete' play through :-) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
DCasali Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) Nice job on those maps Thomas! The trap in Map 10 with the revenants that spawn behind you across the gap was great. It took me quite a few tries to get through that. I also liked map 30 a lot. I tried IDCLEV33 and it did nothing. Is there anything else I have to do to load that map? I just found it - adding "-warp 33" to the command line. Thanks, I'll go play this now Edited November 13, 2021 by DCasali 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

I think that might be due to it not being supported on old versions of the source port. In newer versions of the source port (such as DSDA-Doom, which is a continuation of PrBoom+), you can use IDCELV33 instead of using command line. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Teo Slayer Posted November 13, 2021 Hello @DCasali, it's great to see that you're enjoying Plutonia 2 so far. I also enjoyed it myself. If you liked it, I strongly recommend you to try out Plutonia Revisited. It's a community project which includes 32 maps inspired by Plutonia of course. Have a nice day now and I hope Milo is doing ok Plutonia Revisited on IdGames link: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/prcp 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DCasali Posted November 14, 2021 I finished my playthrough and all maps are now uploaded! This was a fun way to get back into Doom. These maps had familiar elements to them, all being based of their Plutonia counterparts. There were a handful that were much bigger than they needed to be, and felt like they went on FOREVER. This never made the map more fun, just made for more map. Other maps had key/switch/doors that weren't obvious, so I got lost a LOT. The majority of the maps were great though, they were easy to navigate and had fun traps and fights that made you think. I've started a play through of the original Plutonia Experiment now, which has been a really fun trip so far. I'll start uploading those soon. 18 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zilch Posted December 7, 2021 Giving this thread a free bump. Also Dario has recently started a playthrough of the original plutonia.wad. This first one of the series is most interesting because he talks about some of their development history with Team TNT and how/when they (Casali brothers) designed and built the maps. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
robocaco Posted December 7, 2021 It's so cool to see all these playthroughs and really interesting to hear the commentary and learn how these maps were designed. Never thought I'd see something like this happen with Plutonia but it's really great to see. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Senor Cacodemon Posted December 10, 2021 This is way to surprising, would have never expected this 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Sokoro Posted December 21, 2021 I wonder, What If, Dario makes a map for FD:TWiD, then Tarnsman rejects it for not being authentic enough? I hope he makes commentary for other maps he (or his brother made) some in TNT Evilution, Memento Mori and Requirem. That map in requirem is one of few maps from Requirem, that is still stuck in my head (not that the wad would not be good as whole, I just dont have a good memory) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
valkiriforce Posted January 2, 2022 (edited) Having watched the entirety of Dario's playthrough of the original Plutonia Experiement, it seems to me there are a few map credits that are inaccurate on the Doom Wiki based on Dario's commentary - Dario designed maps 08, 13 & 25, while Milo designed map 24. With that in mind, it turns out Dario and Milo share about 16 maps each after all. Quite interesting! Edited January 2, 2022 by valkiriforce 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
T-Rex Posted January 5, 2022 (edited) Dario Casali, it is absolutely amazing that you would show up here in the Doomworld forums. Then again, we've seen some of the mappers from Doom's heyday come by like Tom Mustaine, Chris Couleur, and others. Great that you've went through Plutonia 2 as it's one of the best megawads out there, and now you should try Plutonia Revisited so we can see which do you consider to be the sequel and which one the spiritual successor, in your eyes, of course. I must say, you with your brother Milo have brought a legacy, an introduction to the crazy difficult gameplay that became influential to the wads that came after Plutonia and even those of this era. Without your and your brother's trailblazing, we would never have such difficult megawads like Hell Revealed, Alien Vendetta, Scythe, Kama Sutra, and Speed of Doom, all of which you should give a playthrough, cause these wads stood on the shoulders of your pride and joy. Speaking of Hell Revealed, Alien Vendetta, Scythe and Kama Sutra, Yonatan Donner and Haggay Niv should make a return to the Doom community along with Gusta, Method and Erik Alm. If there's one thing that would be totally awesome is if we get a collab megawad between the founders and developers of the "extreme challenge" in Doom (The Casalis, Yonatan, Haggay, Anders, Erik, Gusta and Method) complete with soundtrack by Lee Jackson (whose ROTT music was used in the original HR). I can't speak for anyone else on that list (though Donner and Niv have not been seen nor heard from in over 20 years) but let's just say Doom is probably the least Erik Alm's concerned with right now. I think there might be a decent chance later on though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I have passed them many times and probably they will remain for me the golden standard that all mappers are now equal to. Please create more, set the bar again! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
