Heretic is an odd one for me.  I was always kinda "meh" about it back when I was young.  These days I enjoy it, but the base game doesn't capture me like Doom or Quake does.  One thing I did with E1M1 was to make a Heretic map that I would actually like playing over and over.  Setting aside (I was never much for medieval fantasy stuff, but I did oddly like Heretic), I don't think it plays like the original maps, and I think I accomplished my goal.

Lovely looking, and holds back no punches (lol). I popped out a video of the first couple of levels in the RC1 version:

First level gave me some Quake I vibes, and as you can tell I had to wake up pretty quickly at the start after it started immediately slapping me around (I'm having a lazy sunday and was still half-asleep when I first started lol). Second level makes nice use of the Egypt looks and really gives off that Powerslave/Hexen II vibe.

@Remilia Scarlet tbh, the thing that makes me dismiss Heretic (and Hexen) is the arsenal. 'cmon, i'm pretty sure that even The Mighty Evil Wizard or Semi-God can be taken down with a shotgun. and let's not even start talking about rocket launcher or BFG.

 

BDW mod for k8vavoom tries to replace Heretic ammo with normal clips, and allows you to play as Doomguy, with shotgun and assault rifle. it's much more fun this way! and playing as Zan is even better, btw. now, THAT is the real Heresy, i believe! ;-)

Happy to hear that! Was a pretty fun job making that level and a nice experience since there was so many textures to use I wasn't sure I was gonna pull it off.

Was the first map intended to be annoyingly difficult? Teleportation can be very compelling, but sometimes, it can be a little bit too much, especially for a map 01

The rest of the levels have jumping disabled. There's no part of E1M7 that looks like it requires jumping.

The author requested that no special settings were to be applied to their map, so jumping was left disabled ^_^

Finished this earlier, good stuff!  There was a nice amount of variety in this set.
