Tips for visually appealing weapon animations.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips to make animation more punchy? I think is the word, stuff that comes to mind are the animations from Final Doomer or MetaDoom, and I guess I should also ask if vanilla weapon sounds or high quality versions of them should still be used or whether it would improve the feel of using the weapons by having new ones.

You could take a look at realm667 weaponry and search for your kind of appealing weapon, since I think it's quite subjective.
Obviously I'd say that animations with more frames and that let the player feel the power of the weapon (via recoil usually for example), are the "punchiest" to me, but I think that even the right muzzle frames and light on the weapon do the job

A lot of the appeal of good Sprite animations is the impression of perspective. Lots of the animations in the IWADs are based on photos of physical models. Cutting and pasting existing resources and or editing photos and perspective drawings are good bets for entirely new animations.
