@taufan99 Have you gotten the chance to try out the April 3rd hotfix yet? Hopefully the sky issue has been fixed.

Sorry, it's been a while and I haven't got the chance to do so. I'll let you know once I've got my hand on it.

@Cammy I've tried the April 3 hotfix and the MAP01 sky issue has been resolved on my end.

Awesome, thank you so much for verifying!

Map09

Played this again and there's not much to say except that I'm still very pleased with this collaboration. I didn't notice any major changes, which is fine because I was thrilled with the previous version. Perhaps there were some detail changes, but the all-important gameplay seems much the same as before, and remains a lot of fun, especially the big, bad Wolfie fight.

Dead Radio next!

Congrats on the idgames release! This is one of the best legendary comebacks in the DOOM community this year.

Congratz on the release Cammy!

RoC25 became one of my fav megawads of all time and I will definitely replay this final version soon. Thanks again for the amazing work.

With the final release of RoC25, heres the matching final release of the RoC96 patch

Realm of Chaos (1996) Patch

Backports the new wonderful Cammy music as well as the story text, fixes a bug in Map 21 stopping 100% kills and items (in ports that allow more than one automap to be collected), as well as backporting the UMAPINFO and stuff I wrote for RoC25. The old Map 6 music track from RC1/RC1.5 'Smoke Signals for the Pointillists' is still playable in the wad in GZDoom via the console command 'changemus d_smoke'

To fully appreciate the changes, try playing RoC96 and RoC25 back to back, the old map then the new. With the new music and story text, the experience will be a lot smoother.

Hey everyone, I've started a UV max playthrough of this remaster and I'm really enjoying it. I'm on map 3 and can't seem to figure out how to get the secret behind the green slime waterfall where the cacos come from (there's a backpack there). Any ideas?

Spoiler

There is a swith in the north side of the bridge you use to cross the nukage pool. It raises a step so you can acces the area where the cacos came from. Very tricky one, only found it on my second playtrough.

Okay, I just beat it this afternoon; HMP continuous.

I already thought of OG RoC as perhaps 'the better TNT Evilution', definitely standing proud in itself among its 1996 peers. But this version takes it above and beyond, I may have to replay this again to see if my initial thoughts hold; that it's probably in my top ten megaWADs of all time.

@Cammy, great work. I mean that. :)

Woo Hoo!!!!! Congratulations, Cammy! You have got the job done and done fabulously well. All the work, toil, and even ennui of putting out a megawad is behind you now, and for the rest of us, funtime begins! :))))) We will all profit from your hard work, and based on what @Jayextee has said, it will be a grand profit indeed. Top Ten of all time? Dayum!

I knew long ago when I played the first full version that this project was coming along great, but thanks to your testers, it was improved still further. I look forward to playing it and thankfully, I have time to do it now since I'll be off work probably 2 months or more -- diabetic ulcer on my left foot and possibly a ruptured Achilles tendon on my right leg -- and after that, retirement is in my future, I'm guessing this time next year if not sooner. So many maps to play, so many to make! Muhaha. :D

I'll start the playthrough by next Monday if not sooner.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you get to recover from those soon.

Thanks so much to everyone here for the congratulations, and for having so much nice to say about the wad! To even be in the discussion of anyone's top 10 megawads - let alone someone who's been at it since 2000 - is an insane accomplishment, and a level of praise that frankly boggles the mind. Thank you so, so much, @Jayextee - I'm very glad you enjoyed the wad. :D

And take care of yourself, @Steve D! Very sorry to hear about your foot and leg issues, hopefully they can be fixed or alleviated good and quick. Take as much time as you need to start that playthrough - lord knows you're the very last person who needs to prove loyalty to Realm of Chaos. ;)

All I can say is that as I'm play through this, I really miss the late 90s a lot.

EDIT: Map20 was INCREDIBLE! I loved how I have to break out a prison, amazing. Super well thought out. Great level design. Really enjoyed that one!

EDIT2: Played thru most of the maps.... I had a ton of fun! Overall, I really liked the transition from map19 to map20. That was my favorite part. =]

It's like night and day compared to the original wad, which still had its share of bangers (courtesy of Steve D) but this overhaul is easily one of the most tasteful remasters I've seen. Also if I were to assemble such a list then the soundtrack here would be in my top ten easily, maybe top five!

After quite a long journey I managed to complete my UV max playthrough. Playlist:

Big congrats to @Cammy for this fantastic remaster, and ofc to The Macintosh Team for the originals. It wasn't always a bump-free ride but overall it was worth it. I will likely +1 this for the 2024 Cacowards.
