RichardDS90 Posted November 8, 2021 Question is in the title. I prefer to use them in a nook, looks more polished and can aid in variety for me. I don't think I've come across very many mods and WADs that just use the switches on the texture. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DynamiteKaitorn Posted November 10, 2021 99% of the time I make a tiny hole and stick the switch inside. Also I typically use the switch texture that has the red + green lights. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dusty_Rhodes Posted November 10, 2021 It just depends. I've done both. I have zero preference, I just pick what I'm going to do depending on what I'm feeling. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
spineapple tea Posted November 10, 2021 The small indentation in the wall for a switch just looks more appealing to me than a flat wall texture. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Capellan Posted November 10, 2021 If there's an SW1 wall texture that fits, I'll just use that. If there's not, I'll do an indent. Even then though, it might be a 64-wide indent with SW1COMM in it. There's also the fact that using SW1 wall textures is much more line efficient, so it's generally the way to go for line-limited projects. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Hawk of The Crystals Posted November 10, 2021 I always do an indent, it just looks right. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Astronomical Posted November 10, 2021 If it's a vanilla map I might use it flat on the wall to lower the sector count, other than that I prefer to indent the texture like most people here. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arrowhead Posted November 10, 2021 I've done both. It really depends on the surrounding geometry. The indent method often does look more 'polished', though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
JustCallMeKaito Posted November 10, 2021 Directly on a wall if it's vanilla / a challenge set, in a nook with a light source otherwise. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bridgeburner56 Posted November 10, 2021 I pretty much always frame my switches so that they stand out better. Even a 128x64 texture will get recessed in some way. Because no matter how obvious you think a switch is, people will miss it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
CBM Posted November 10, 2021 I have done both and do both. But I was wondering in what other ways people use switch texture? Like a 3D block sticking out of the wall? a free standing switch? a switch that sticks out from the wall below the switch or variations of that? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted November 10, 2021 Depending of the situation, but i use both methods 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Faceman2000 Posted November 10, 2021 I like to make pressure pads a la Quake. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
nicolas monti Posted November 10, 2021 Both, depending on the sector height, but I dislike the switch sized nooks of 32×32 units. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SilverMiner Posted November 10, 2021 I used to hang them on walls in projects where I was allowed to edit a textures lump 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Why be hiding the necessary? 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
leodoom85 Posted November 10, 2021 Both, depending of the texture. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
