grendelw Posted November 10, 2021 I know there's the -vanilla parameter for vanilla, but I was wondering what the best way was for ensuring demo compatibility with Boom and MBF? What settings should I use under compatibility options? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted November 10, 2021 Currently, Eternity is not equipped to record Boom or MBF compatible demos. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
grendelw Posted November 10, 2021 That's too bad. Thanks for the heads up. Is it a lack of compatibility for the demo format, I guess? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) Well it can play them back to some degree of success, but it's currently not intentional. As such, it could record one right now (though I don't know if the demo manager can set up the header), but even with the right compatibility flags, it's not guaranteed to be a playable demo outside of Eternity (as in it would desync in actual Boom/MBF), and thus not worthwhile or ideal. Especially if the compatibility improves, the demo would be effectively orphaned. Edited November 10, 2021 by Edward850 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
grendelw Posted November 10, 2021 Interesting. I guess I'm still juggling source ports, then lol. Thanks. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted November 10, 2021 Wait. Currently the support for playing BOOM and MBF demos is proven to work by extensive testing. There are a few notable exceptions caused by PrBoom's failure to fully mean -complevel 11 = MBF in some very specific cases (e.g. BLOCKMAP building), and people actually using PrBoom+ or whatever to record BOOM and MBF demos nowadays (due to the lack of advantage of running the originals on DOSBox; it's not even like vanilla DOOM due to crap music quality). Recording however is only supported to vanilla DOOM yet. We haven't got around to adding such support for BOOM or MBF but technically it will be doable. The added complexity is that the ports, unlike vanilla, let you configure the game extensively. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I am very curious. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) The BOOM/Allegro instruments which get heard through DOSBox, which now is the way to play the old executables. Also other glitches, such as the reversed stereo. Edited November 10, 2021 by printz 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
